Community Highlights: Meet Tanasha Friar of Tone Therapy LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanasha Friar

Hi Tanasha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a young girl, I would perform with my cousins for our family. We would lip sync and put on concerts and plays. I also wanted to model and follow the footsteps of my mother. So, throughout my life, I pursued the entertainment business, while maintaining school and a work balance. I went to modeling school, took acting classes, entered talent shows and won pageants. As a native Texan, I have performed on stage, independent films, commercials, print work, etc. I took the leap and moved to Los Angeles for a while and made a few waves. Upon my return to Dallas, I worked in corporate America, while trying to regain my footing in the industry. It was challenging to work a nine to five and try to pursue an acting career.

A friend was working as a massage therapist and I inquired how she enjoyed it, she convinced me it was very rewarding. I thought, this could allow me the flexibility to audition and work for myself. Therefore, I enrolled in massage therapy school two weeks later and the rest is history, as they say. I have been blessed to practice in two things in which I thoroughly enjoy….acting and massage therapy.

Both are actually a calling. I don’t think you just have one. It takes a unique soul to do this work, in my opinion and experiences.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I juggled both for many years and have been successful. After a while, my clientele began to increase with referrals and massage therapy began to take the lead. I have had many challenges as a self-employed entrepreneur. So much so, that I’ve changed my business names a few times, as well as locations throughout the years. It has been a “pick up and start over” adventure for various reasons. During some of those times, my acting career was going well and so both careers would help sustain my lifestyle. After the pandemic, I had to move from the location in which I was in for 10 years. This is my current place and I look forward to expanding soon.

As an entrepreneur, there is no steady paycheck for that security. There is a lot of hustle and grit to get the next client. A lot of marketing and advertising, administrative duties, and ideas that constantly live in your head until you get a chance to write them down. I’m thankful to have the ability to indulge in that creative freedom, even if it can be overwhelming sometimes. You have to keep up and reinvent yourself, for some this can be challenging. For me, it keeps me moving, learning, and growing. This is my way of life.

We’ve been impressed with Tone Therapy LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My massage therapy business is an integrative practice for the mind, body, and soul. I offer various services and specialize in relieving chronic pain in the neck, shoulders, and low back. I also provide lymphatic massage for women who are receiving oncology treatment after breast cancer surgery. I have received various certifications within my industry. I am not only a licensed massage therapist with the State of Texas, but I am also a Medical Massage Practitioner and Certified Lymphedema Therapist. I have also acquired a unique modality certification for Yomassage® which is a combination of restorative yoga positions, with breath work and light massage therapy, offering stretch, mindfulness and touch on the mat.

My practice also expands into Corporate Chair massage. We have recently received several certifications under the National Minority Supplier Development Council. This will open doors for Tone Therapy, as a small business, to work with other businesses and government agencies. There have been studies that show 10-15 minute chair massages help employees relieve tension and stress, feel better and become more focused. We want to help give a respite for the hard-working and dedicated.

Wait, that’s not all….our fun side is a unique combination that I put together. One of our Elite Services is called the Wine Down Mobile Spa Party!! We offer a wine tasting with Clean-Crafted™ wine and massage in a private casual setting for the hosts and their guests. As an Independent Wine Consultant with Scout and Cellar, I speak about the background of each clean wine selected and you and your guests enjoy the party!

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I have several things that make me happy, when I think about it. Listening to old school R&B music, it’s deep and soulful; being on a beach or near palm trees, smelling and seeing the ocean and the breeze, it brings serenity; watching my son grow into the young man he is meant to be, I am proud to be his mother; playing with my dogs, that unconditional love is everything; and remembering the laughter of my mom, she made me who I am and I miss her dearly. Also, thinking and praying about the grace God shows me daily.
