Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalia Torres
Natalia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey began out west in California, where I was born and raised, and I am now embracing life in Texas. Though I have now lived in Texas for the past 4 years, I am a California girl at heart. Growing up, I always had a love for art and photography. I always carried around a little point and shoot to document the little things in my daily life. It wasn’t until 2019 that I got my first professional camera and started shooting anything and everything to practice and learn my camera better. In college I took a few photography classes which really expanded my creativity and was able to learn and do so much more with my camera. I moved to Texas in 2020 as it was the midst of the pandemic and I had the freedom to take my schooling online wherever I went. In 2021 I got a job in a few hospitals as a newborn photographer and I absolutely loved it, so in 2022 I dove off the deep end and decided to start my own photography business. I honestly felt like I had no idea what I was doing, but I was driven and figured things out one day at a time. I wanted to invest in myself and upgrade to a mirrorless camera and so I did my research and budget and ended up getting the Canon Eos R. I was absolutely in love with my new camera, because unfortunately after trying to selling my dslr, I was scammed and there was nothing that could be done to resolve the situation. I started out doing maternity and then it led to family, grad, and basically anything I could get just to keep practicing and learning. Over time, I didn’t keep up with my business from a lack of time management, a lot of self-doubt, and discouragement. I wasn’t consistent in posting my work on social media or networking to get more clients and build my portfolio. I got engaged in March of 2023, eloped with my now husband Brailin in July of 2023, and planned to have a wedding to celebrate with our family and friends a year later in October of 2024. I feel like after having post-wedding blues, I started to take interest in couples photography, especially after doing tons of research for a wedding photographer and found so much inspiration and beautiful work. At the end of 2024, I decided that I really want to start taking my business seriously and rebrand, so I decided to book a content retreat and truly invest in myself and my business. So this past January in 2025 I went on my retreat and was absolutely blown away at how my creativity expanded. I got to be a part of such an amazing photography community of which I made some really great friends. With the start of this new rebrand, I have decided to focus mostly on couples and hope to also shoot engagements and elopements this year! As a photographer, artist, writer, and lover of love, I thrive on creativity, using it to craft work that resonates deeply with my audience. I have a passion for connecting with people from all walks of life, believing that everyone has a unique story to tell and something to teach. Through photography, I strive to capture moments that truly tell your story and feel like poetry—images that hold emotion, depth, and authenticity. No matter your background, age, or where you’re from, I absolutely love to connect with people and help bring their stories to life through my art. I could not be the person I am or create art that I love without God to take me each step of the way. I want to be able to fulfill my purpose which is spreading God’s love through my work as I would not be able to do what I do without Him. Now at this new stage of life, with the support from my husband, family, and friends, I cannot wait to keep storytelling and truly push myself to create a brand that I am proud of and that represents me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road on my photography journey. I have had struggles with consistency, motivation, self-worth, finances, and more. It’s not always an easy thing to achieve your goals. Sometimes you make a plan and think everything will go great if you stick to it, but realistically, progress is not always a straight line. After I was scammed out of my camera, I had to bite the bullet and buy my new camera anyways, though it was financially difficult at the time to get it. Finding what niche is something that took time to figure out and was not always clear to me until this year. My editing style is something that has also taken time and honestly will still probably be changing as I continue to learn and grow my brand.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the owner of Honeymae Photography and I specialize in storytelling, cinematic, couples & portrait photography. I am most proud of my ability to connect with my clients and use my writing and art background to create art that feels like a still from a movie. I constantly look for inspiration and am expanding my knowledge on color, composition, prompting, etc. I have a great attention to detail and love finding the beauty in every shot I take. I try to look at the world through God’s lens and as He is the one who created everything, I try to find the beauty in it.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Some of my favorite childhood memories were going to the bay with my family and visiting my grandma in San Mateo. My grandma is the sweetest, kindest, most loving soul and my brother and I were her only grandchildren at the time so we were spoiled to no end. Her home was filled with so much love and warmth, I don’t remember a single bad memory there. She always used to make yummy french toast and we would have the best sleepovers. I would paint her nails or do her hair and she is such a big blessing in my life to this day.
