Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Gomez
Hi Alexis, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
The thought of doing permanent jewelry came to me when my best friend of 15 years and I got matching permanent bracelets at a local event before the industry blew up. We loved the experience of choosing a chain that felt like us and the memory it held. After feeling the effects of burnout from my corporate job, I was looking for a creative outlet. I loved accessorizing outfits with jewelry & handbags, and so I began looking into jewelry creation and permanent jewelry! I did training on how to safely weld, what materials are best to use, how start a business/LLC, and how to use social media for my own brand. I practiced permanent jewelry on my friends and family for about a month and officially launched Fused Jewelry Bar on Instagram November of 2023. Since then, I have had the pleasure of doing pop-up events with incredible businesses, hotels, wineries, markets, sororities and country clubs across the DFW Metroplex! I love being able to help create memories and bring my clients jewelry ideas to life!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I wish I could say it has but it has not! I am still learning how to run my business better every single day. Early on, I struggled a lot with imposter syndrome and thinking that my business would not be successful. The first 2 markets I ever, I did not make a single sale. My dad actually sent me $100 for being out in the cold in the middle of December trying to get my business going (thank you, dad!!)! I was ready to call it quits and submit to the idea that I wasn’t going to be successful. I reached out to House of Beauty Med Spa in Fort Worth and Hotel Vin in Grapevine and asked to do a pop-up at the Mother’s Day events they were hosting. I was super nervous because I didn’t know how these events were going to go, but they were a success and it definitely helped me build that confidence again! I also work a full-time job, so navigating and working around my schedule is definitely a challenge at times. For me, the easiest way to work my business is to block off a couple hours after work. I take it day by day or task by task to not get too overwhelmed.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Aside from Fused, I do work a full-time corporate job in the Talent Acquisition and Recruiting space for a telecommunications company. I specialize in full-cycle internal and external recruiting! However, my goal is to hopefully transition into my jewelry business full-time at some point and start a new non-permanent jewelry line!
I am most proud of how far I’ve come in a relatively short amount of time. I recently had an “I made it” moment! While doing an event in Dallas, I was fitting a new client for an anklet. We were talking and she said she had been wanting to get permanent jewelry for the longest time but wanted to wait until I had my next pop-up. I asked her how she heard about Fused and she said she heard about my business thru several people in the North Fort Worth area. I couldn’t believe she drove all the way to Dallas to see me and come to find out she lived in my hometown too!
I believe what sets me apart from others is how much I care for my clients. I want them to have the best experience and memories tied with me and my business. I am a quality before quantity type of person. You will not leave my chair until your jewelry is secure! I also love getting to know all my clients and helping them pick out chains & charms. It’s so much fun getting creative and making a one of a kind piece!
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I believe in taking risks, 100%. You are guaranteed to fail at something if you don’t try. My dad always told my younger brother and I growing up, you have to takes risks and be uncomfortable to grow. Humans are creatures of habit and we usually don’t improve unless we change something. The biggest risk I took on my business was the start up cost. When I first started my business, I put all of my business expenses on my credit card. I personally don’t like owing anyone money, especially when it comes to a credit card company (interest rates…gross..), so I knew I HAD to get my business going ASAP. I had savings at the time, but that was going to be my last resort. I wanted to prove to myself that I could get uncomfortable, take risk, learn, and accomplish my biggest dream. I encourage everyone to take risks and to get out of their comfort zone!
