Check Out Ian Gilliam’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ian Gilliam.

Hi Ian, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my business after graduating from UT El Paso as a side gig, editing my older sister’s podcast. She recommended me to some of her business friends and before I knew it I had two more clients, all in the Accounting Podcasting sphere. Then I made the decision to move to Dallas to live near my fiance and acquired one more client before I moved which made the move possible. Since I’ve been in Dallas we got married, I’ve had a few more off and on clients with some new ones coming up soon hopefully, I’ve grown my service offerings from basic audio only podcast editing to running YouTube channels, creating short form content, and providing professional video editing. I’m now looking to either partner with a social media manager or contract them to provide more services offerings to my clients and future prospects.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a fairly smooth road because my first clients are still with me and very satisfied with the work I do for them and have been ready to pay for more services as I’ve been growing to help their podcasts and businesses grow as well.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m known for my consistent output of content that satisfies my clients, as well as my personalized approach with each client to help their podcasts improve and keep pushing things forward. I’m proud of maintaining good relationships with my clients and I think that relationship is ultimately what sets me apart. You aren’t just getting an editor, you’re getting a fellow creative who you can bounce ideas off of and get inspiration from while you maintain the last say in creative decisions (if you like that) or if you are less of a creative, you can hand over more of the reigns to me and I’ll make sure things stay interesting.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
The biggest risk for me was moving to full time and moving from El Paso to Dallas with just my business to pay for it. It was worth it, but of course it was a calculated risk, which is what I tend to take. I try not to be reckless myself and weigh my options, but sometimes you have to take leaps otherwise you’ll never move to the next level. Right now I’m close to hiring my first contractor and it’s definitely a financial risk, but my workload is at a point where the only way my business will grow is if I get more help.
