Conversations with Alberta The Exception

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alberta The Exception.

Hi Alberta, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Alberta Fitcheard-Brydson, also known as Comedian, Alberta The Exception.
I say I’m from Oklabama, Texas because I grew up in Oklahoma and Alabama but have been in the Dallas area since I was 14 years old.
I played Women’s Tackle Football for 14 seasons beginning in 2003. I was married on the 50 yard line prior to a game. Changed out my dress and suited up scoring multiple touchdowns in front of my family in town for the wedding. Our wedding was featured in the February 2004 edition of Ebony Magazine as one of the weddings of the year. I won championships in Women’s Football Leagues, played on the U. S. National Tackle Team twice (Sweden & Finland), the U.S. National Flag Football Team twice (Sweden & Italy), and was inducted into the Women’s Football Hall of Fame in 2018.
In 2018 I left corporate America to pursue comedy. I wasn’t sure how to write a joke but I had to take the leap of faith through the fear.
I have overcome my stage fright and the fear of starting something new and Hosted or Featured for some amazing comedians all over the United States. Loving the journey.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road.
I dealt with stage fright. The fear of starting something new is hard. Fear can be paralyzing but once you push through there are so many good things on the other side.
I had been an All Star athlete for years but starting a new career and not being good at it right away was a challenge to push through mentally. It was a vulnerability that I wasn’t used to.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Being a comedian is a rewarding career in many ways. I love interacting with the audience during and after the show. It’s a great feeling to be greeted with a hug by a stranger because something I said brought them joy.
I love knowing that I took someone’s mind off whatever they are going through in life to fill them with love, laughter, and light even if for a moment. I have fulfilled one of my life purposes of being a light.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My Mom and brother have been great supporters throughout it all.

Comedian, Derrick Jack showed me how to structure my jokes when I didn’t know how to write a joke. I had material but didn’t know how to get a flow.

Comedian, MJ Moody taught me about confidence on stage.

Celebrity the Comedian taught me how to have fun on stage, adlibs, and punching up jokes.

Shed G. Gave me a platform on stage and on his podcast. He also took me on the road.

All local comedians that tour nationally that believed in me and gave me stage time to hone my skills.
