Rising Stars: Meet Lindsey Peterson of Carrollton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Peterson.

Hi Lindsey, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always been a creative person, and that side of me really started to grow when I joined an organization called Destination Imagination. It gave me the space to explore my imagination and problem-solving through creativity. But it wasn’t until high school that I truly discovered my love for painting — that’s when everything kind of clicked.

Along the way, I’ve also developed a passion for photography and a deep love for animals. I started thinking, why not combine all of that? That led me to focus on creating landscapes and pet portraits. Now, a big part of what I do is capturing the spirit and personality of pets — especially those that have passed — so their owners can hold onto those special memories. It’s incredibly rewarding to create something meaningful that keeps that bond alive.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Balancing being a full-time student in undergrad, working multiple jobs, and trying to keep my creative side hustle going has been one of the biggest challenges. There are days where I feel completely drained, and it’s hard to find the time — or even the energy — to sit down and create. That can be really frustrating when art is something that brings me peace and joy.

Another challenge has been navigating self-doubt and figuring out my own artistic style. It’s easy to compare yourself to others, especially online, but I’ve learned that growth takes time and that everyone’s journey looks different. I’m still finding my voice as an artist, but I’ve come to appreciate the process. The struggles have made me more resilient and more connected to the work I create for others.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I mainly paint pet portraits using watercolor and acrylic paints, often experimenting with different textures and techniques to bring each piece to life. Over time, I’ve found that many of my commissions are for pets who have passed away, and being able to preserve their memory through art has become the most rewarding part of what I do.

Alongside being an artist, I also work as a vet tech, which has given me a deep understanding of the bond between animals and their owners. I’ve had the honor of being there not only for the happy, playful moments but also during the most difficult times — helping pets cross the rainbow bridge and supporting their owners through the grieving process. That experience gives my artwork a deeper emotional layer. I don’t just paint a portrait; I capture a relationship, a story, a memory that means the world to someone.

I’m excited to be attending Parker University this fall to begin my journey toward becoming both a human and animal chiropractor. My goal is to support the health and well-being of people and their pets, strengthening that incredible bond between them. Outside of school, I also hope to find time to continue painting and selling my artwork. It’s something I truly enjoy, and being able to use that creative outlet to help with school costs would be a meaningful and rewarding way to support myself along this journey.

What sets me apart is that I create from a place of empathy and real-life experience. I know how much love lives in those little details — the tilt of a head, the sparkle in their eyes, the unique expression that made them them. And that’s what I aim to preserve in every piece I create.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to trust the process and believe in yourself. In a world where social media plays such a huge role, it’s easy to get caught up in the numbers — likes, views, shares. I’ve definitely found myself questioning my work based on how well it performs online. But at the end of the day, I’ve realized that I have to stay true to myself and create what feels meaningful, not just what’s trending.

As an artist who’s still growing and juggling a lot — school, work, life — I’ve learned that progress takes time, and comparison only slows you down. When I focus on why I started and the impact my work can have on someone else, everything falls into place. It’s about showing up, being authentic, and letting your passion lead the way.
