Conversations with Brandi Doran

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandi Doran.

Hi Brandi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It is with much pleasure to introduce myself, Brandi Doran, an elementary educator and home designer residing in the heart of the downtown historical district of Weatherford. Having a family that has lived in this community for many generations, I knew in my heart it was where I wanted to raise my own family and build the home of my dreams.

Three years ago, we broke ground with a custom-designed home in the middle of an established and historic neighborhood. Combining timeless design styles with modern upgrades, this home has been a one-of-a-kind journey that will last generations to come. Our neoclassical Texas-Tudor style home was designed by yours truly, ranging from floor layouts to cabinetry designs, to each and every fixture, color, hardware, and furnishing selection. With the help of some incredible local craftsmen, they brought my designs to life! Our home has been showcased in local magazine publications, and I continue to grow my online audience through various social media platforms.

Although my background and professional life have had an educational history, my true passion is and always has been home design. Whether selecting and sharing affordable luxe decor styles to incorporate into a space, or sharing methods of keeping a home functional and beautiful, creating spaces using design and decor is at the core of what I love. You can call me Weatherford Woman!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Building post-pandemic made this home build particularly challenging. Despite my meticulous planning and attention to detail throughout the process, I had to learn to let go of what couldn’t be done and pivot to accomplish this home build successfully. Finding the local availability, materials, and required crew to complete this project was a major juggling act. For example, windows were on backorder for six months, there was a shortage on appliances, and that was just a small part of the bigger picture. However, we were blessed with wonderful people who had a lead role to play in the completion of this home build.

One of the biggest things that helped during our process was renting a local storage unit. At first, this was to store appliances (which again, had been a struggle to find or have in stock after Covid). This storage unit quickly filled throughout our year-long lease, as I slowly began purchasing items like light fixtures, hardware, plumbing fittings, and new furnishings. As we reached the time to transport and incorporate these items into our new home, it made the process much smoother!

As I continue to grow my social media following through my home design account, Weatherford Woman, these are the stories I like to share and the advice I like to give anyone who is designing or building a home!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
First and foremost, I am a wife and mother. My husband and daughter are the most important people in my life, and I devote my time to them above all else. Serving as an elementary educator for the local school district, my time dedicated to home design has been solely via reference and word of mouth. My creative side can thrive as I pursue this journey of helping friends, family, and locals of Weatherford and beyond. Additionally, I enjoy sharing home decor and design tips and tricks on my social media page, Weatherford Woman.

Designing our Two Sixteen Texas-Tudor home from top to bottom, inside and out, is by far the proudest thing I have accomplished. This is simply not a home or box of air, it holds precious memories of the past and present, and beautiful unknowns of the future. I believe what sets my designs apart from others is that it is an approach of traditional worldly and classic styles that are not temporarily trendy, but carefully and passionately curated to reflect our everyday life.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
With social media platforms being flooded with design accounts, I employ those to support a small town Texas girl that has a passion for her family and her home, making every moment a moment to be captured. I enjoy sharing affordable home design and decor, linked through my Instagram and Pinterest platforms. If you want to look “bougee on a budget” then I am the woman for you!
