Check Out Jennifer Lam’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Lam.

Hi Jennifer, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve loved fashion ever since I was a kid. But growing up, I wasn’t in a position to splurge on expensive, trendy brand names, so I had to be super intentional with how I spent my money. As I got older, that mindset stuck with me—but I started wondering: is it possible to look stylish without breaking the bank and without sacrificing quality?

That question led me down a rabbit hole of researching affordable alternatives and comparing them to high-end brands. And what I found was pretty eye-opening—so many affordable pieces look and feel just as good as the originals. I started sharing my Amazon finds and comparisons on TikTok, and it turns out a lot of other people were searching for the exact same thing.

That’s how this all started—just me, a love for fashion, and a goal to help people look good and feel confident without overspending.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road! One of the biggest setbacks I faced was in June 2023 when I lost my original TikTok account that had over 100K followers. At the time, I was posting a lot of “dupe” content—sharing affordable alternatives to popular brand name items—and while my audience loved it, some of the brands being duped didn’t. I started getting hit with takedowns for trademark infringement, and eventually, my entire account was banned.

It was honestly devastating. I had put so much time and energy into growing that community, and just like that, I had to start from scratch. But in the long run, it taught me how to pivot, protect my content, and rebuild in a more sustainable way. I focused on staying consistent, connecting with my audience again, and continuing to deliver honest, helpful content. And slowly but surely, I built it all back up.

Looking back, it was one of the hardest moments—but also one of the most important. It reminded me that this is bigger than one account—it’s about the value I’m bringing and the trust I’ve built with my community.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I create content centered around affordable fashion finds—mainly from Amazon—and help people build stylish wardrobes without spending a fortune. I specialize in try-on hauls, product reviews, and styling videos, especially for activewear, loungewear, and everyday basics. A lot of my content focuses on finding pieces that are inspired by higher-end brands like SKIMS, Aritzia, Lululemon, and DFYNE—but at a fraction of the price.

What really sets me apart is how detailed and honest I am in my reviews. I don’t just post links—I break down the fit, feel, sizing, and how each piece compares to the original. I want people to feel confident and informed when they shop. I think that transparency has helped me build a really trusting and loyal community.

One of the things I’m most proud of is the fact that people trust me. They come to me for styling advice, outfit inspo, and product recommendations—and that’s something I don’t take lightly. Knowing I’ve helped someone feel more confident in what they’re wearing is the best part of what I do.

And while the journey hasn’t always been easy—I lost my original TikTok account in 2023 with over 100K followers—I’ve been able to rebuild everything from the ground up. I started over, stayed consistent, and kept showing up for my community. And now, I’ve not only grown my audience again, but built a business and a platform I’m truly proud of.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something that might surprise people is that I’m actually an introvert. Even though I talk to my followers every day and share a lot online, in real life I tend to be more reserved and private. I think a lot of that comes from how I was raised—my Asian parents were really focused on making sure I stayed on track with school and success, so they were pretty cautious when it came to friendships and relationships.

On top of that, seeing my older sister go through tough experiences with friend groups taught me early on that having a smaller, close-knit circle is better than being surrounded by people who might not have your best interests at heart. So while I love connecting with my audience and building a community online, I’m also someone who values deep trust and quiet time offline.

It’s definitely a balance, but I think that contrast—being open with my content but more introverted in person—is something people wouldn’t expect.
