Community Highlights: Meet Natasha Montgomery of M.B.S Whole Health Counseling & Coaching Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natasha Montgomery

Hi Natasha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up in Detroit, I learned early on that resilience was necessary for survival. My family faced financial hardships, and I experienced personal struggles like childhood trauma, grief, and loss. But through it all, I never lost the drive to push forward. My journey started in corporate healthcare, where I spent 16 years managing and training healthcare providers, but I always felt a deeper calling. After witnessing the emotional struggles of employees and realizing how much mental health was overlooked, I knew I wanted to make a bigger impact. I took a leap of faith, went back to school, and became a licensed therapist and life coach. Now, through M.B.S Whole Health, I help people heal from trauma, navigate life transitions, and build resilience. My experiences allow me to sit with clients in their darkest moments, not just as a professional, but as someone who truly understands what it means to struggle and overcome.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all, it’s been a journey filled with challenges, but every obstacle has shaped me into the therapist and person I am today. Growing up, my family faced financial hardships, and I experienced deep personal struggles like childhood trauma, abandonment, grief, and even divorce. These experiences led to battles with depression and anxiety, but they also planted the seed of resilience in me. Transitioning from corporate healthcare to full-time counseling was another hurdle. I faced fear, self-doubt, and the challenge of building a business from the ground up. There were moments when I questioned if I had made the right decision, but my faith, determination, and passion for helping others kept me going. I’ve learned that growth happens in discomfort, and every struggle has prepared me to guide others through their healing journey with compassion and understanding.

We’ve been impressed with M.B.S Whole Health Counseling & Coaching Services, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
M.B.S Whole Health is a mental health practice rooted in the belief that true healing happens when we nurture the Mind, Body, and Spirit together. My approach is holistic, integrating faith, professional expertise, and personal experience to help clients navigate life’s toughest challenges. I specialize in working with individuals, particularly women, dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, and relationship struggles. A major focus of my work is attachment-based counseling, helping clients recognize how their early childhood experiences shape their emotional well-being and relationships as adults. What truly sets M.B.S Whole Health apart is that my work is not only grounded in textbook knowledge. I bring a deep level of empathy, resilience, and lived experience to the therapeutic space. I understand firsthand what it means to struggle, to heal, and to rebuild, and I use that insight to walk alongside my clients with compassion and understanding.

Beyond one-on-one counseling, M.B.S Whole Health is dedicated to mental health education, community outreach, and professional development for other therapists. We’ve expanded to offer therapy support groups, guided mental health journals, and coaching for clinicians looking to build and scale their private practices. I also provide LPC Associate Supervision in Texas, helping new therapists develop their skills and confidence as they work toward full licensure. Additionally, I launched my podcast, “This Therapist Has Problems,” as a way to normalize conversations about mental health, particularly in communities where seeking therapy has often been stigmatized. I am incredibly proud of the safe and empowering space we’ve built for clients who may have never considered therapy before. My goal is simple, to help people heal, grow, and take back control of their stories. If you’re ready to start your healing journey, know that you don’t have to do it alone.

How do you define success?
For me, success is about impact. It’s not just about what I accomplish, but how I help others grow, heal, and thrive. It’s seeing a client who once struggled with self-doubt step into their confidence, witnessing someone break free from unhealthy relationship patterns, or guiding an LPC Associate as they build a fulfilling career in mental health. Success isn’t measured by titles or accolades; it’s measured by the lives I touch, the safe spaces I create, and the ripple effect of healing in the communities I serve.

On a personal level, success means living in alignment with my purpose, doing work that feels meaningful, staying true to my values, and continuing to evolve as both a therapist and a person. It’s also about balance, ensuring that while I pour into others, I also make space for my own well-being and growth. If I can look back and know that I’ve helped people take control of their stories and find hope in places they once felt lost, then I know I’m exactly where I’m meant to be.
