Conversations with Mandy Montane

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mandy Montane

Hi Mandy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a creative youth, I tapped into my imagination to invent stories. My boundless energy and curiosity led me down many paths of exploration. The outdoors was my playground where my senses were satiated. No stone was left unturned, no tree left unclimbed, and no fruit left untasted. Climbing Grandma’s apple tree, I would get belly aches from eating the sour, little green apples and overeating mulberries. Honey Suckles were my favorite and searching for the lucky four-leaf clover. The adventure didn’t end there. Grandma would take me on picnics at the park, and we would dangerously walk the rickety, wooden planks of the old bridge, hoping not to fall into the lake below. We’d swim in the creek where Grandma swam as a girl. She’d tell me stories about her childhood in the 1920’s and take me to the Chisholm Trail watering hole and told me tales of ancestors who would bring their horses there. Recreating the Land Run in elementary school happened every year further developing my imagination, as I could actually recreate being in covered wagons, clothed in dresses and pretend I was there during that time. Looking out into the vast prairie, i visualized Cowboys and Indians. My love of dolls evoked my imagination which taught me how to create characters and plots. All these experiences led me to be a storyteller.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My road has been rocky with divorce, financial struggles, having been a single mother for a brief time and having chronic health illnesses.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a writer and artistic teacher. I create worlds and stories, hoping to bring inspiration and joy to others, I’m proud of being a mother and a woman of faith. I am a sensitive spirit with a child-like awe of adventure, seeing the world through the eyes of a child. As an adult, I suppose that sets me apart from others.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
It may surprise people to know that I’m intrigued by the paranormal and have unexplainable pictures on my camera.
