Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Currie
Hi Dana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
There is a quote that says:
“Cooking is Love Made Edible.”
That perfectly describes how I started to express myself through food and where it all began.
I was born in Detroit, MI… Where summers were filled with tons of barbecue grills going throughout each neighborhood. Ribs, Red hots, Chicken Wings, and more. Also, Riding down Grand River and Smelling Steve’s Soul Food. Late Night Coney Rides and Asian’s Corned Beef.
I started cooking at the very young age of (5).. I faced a lot of difficulties growing up. From being adopted, feeling like an outsider and most often times misunderstood. So, I used Cooking as my form of expression without having to express actual words. I noticed how food brought the joy out in people, it brought people together as well as, a form of connection and bonding with those whom were around me. Cooking brought peace to my heart and mind. The passion grew so I continued to pour and become better and better.
By the age of 14,
I was very skillful and attained a lot of cooking knowledge therefore, I enrolled in a Trade School for Culinary. That opened my eyes and mind to a whole new world. The opportunities, meeting so many amazing people, and many of those poured into me and my skills.
I knew then I had the capability to be a great chef. I attended college in which I’ve received my ASSOCIATES AND BACHELORS Degree. I built my business on Faith and a Dream. I decided to step out on a limb and become an entrepreneur. Was it easy? Absolutely Not?! But, was it worth it?!? ABSOLUTELY!!
I worked day and night perfecting my craft. Understanding my strengths as well as, my weaknesses. Now we’re here. Many many years later and the encouragement of the wonderful people whom gave me the opportunities to bring their visions to life. I’m here now and I’m forever grateful.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Entrepreneurship is not a smooth road.
Some of my struggles were fear, failure, many nights of working but, yet to see the profit of your hard work that has been invested. The list can go on and on….
But, most importantly with all the struggles you have to push through and believe in yourself. If nobody else believes in you. You must believe in you. With that mindset you will go far and you will absolutely succeed!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
