Today we’d like to introduce you to Admire Dorsey.
Hi Admire, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hello I am Admire Dorsey I am an 20 year old upcoming artist from Dallas Texas. I grew up here my whole life never really left it never been outside of Texas and I feel like that has played a big part into my creativity especially the Dallas culture. I have also been into music since like all my life for all I could ever remember. I have always been into music my whole life. At a young age my mother used to take me to piano lessons and drum lessons at a recording studio at a young age where I used to work with professionals on my craft. My mother also used to sing a lot just around the house so that’s where I got my singing skills from. I then got into choir from middle school then I quit for a few years and got back into it my senior year of high school and my choir teachers, they really taught me about vocal care and about taking care of your vocals while singing also, with breath control. In 2023 I decided to introduce my sound to the world and put out my first single “Touch My Body” and that song was really hard for me to put out. I was just really scared of what everyone would think of it. I thank God for my best friend Isabella for letting me play the song millions of times in her car. Playing my music for my friends and also recording my music in my friends dorms really helped me get others advice on my music instead of keeping it to myself I finally allowed myself to share my art with others. Going back a little “Touch My Body” was not suppose to be the route I was suppose to go with my music growing up I thought all I was suppose to create was RNB or Hip-hop due to what everyone else that looked like me was doing but, I just decided to break the norms and make pop music and with the help from the senior year choir teachers and my friends they really have me the courage to put the song out.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a tough road. You know several times last year I wanted to quit music and never come back to it because you know sometimes the outcome of a song is not what you expect it to do. I always went back and forth taking several months breaks away from putting it on or even promoting my music because I just had that one thought that it wasn’t for me, that the reason I am quote on quote “Flopping” is that it was not for me. So I got more into promoting my music, making different Tiktoks to it and going live on different platforms just to promote and I will say it has helped me a lot and gained me a bit of a fan base I would say. But one of my closest friends Caleb has really been pushing me to keep going and that I can do more than just music at once he has been very encouraging to me and my music career so far. I would say another challenge is getting my mother’s approval on most things. She is highly in the church and my music is not necessarily something she would listen to on a day to day so sometimes she would tell me to tone it down a bit or sometimes it on to me for some of my lyrics but, she supports me either way.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Yes I am currently working and gearing up to put out my second project this August which I am super super excited about that is the main thing I am focused on. I have a strict image and an era I want for it and this music has been just pouring out of me very fastly these past few months and it has been a very quick but, also a very fun and creative process. Everything I say in this project is so real and so true to me and I am finally not afraid to say certain things in my music because it is my art and I now realize I can do what ever I want with my art. I also have a short film coming with this project every song will have a video which is very exciting I have been very into film and screen writing since i was a child, I use to write stories all the time and i really want to express my talents more instead of holding back so I am very excited for that. And I just want to build my name. I want my name Admire Dorsey to be legendary as it will be.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something surprising about me this might be relatable but i’m not for sure that i do not write my music at all i go on the mic and i freestyle and say anything i am feeling at the moment. Because i do not know when i just lock in and get on the mic. I love just throwing up all my thoughts and feeling’s right there then writing lyrics down. But recently i have been really getting back into songwriting and it has been very cool because, you can do so much with that different words you can rhyme together it is so cool to see all these words to come together as a story on my next project their is a lot of cool song writing and story telling aspects I am excited for the public to see.
