Rising Stars: Meet Cammie Lane of Dallas, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cammie Lane.

Hi Cammie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It all started for me in high school when I told my parents I wanted to be a hair stylist. Beauty is a huge passion of mine, and I’ve always loved the feeling of making people smile and feel beautiful in their skin! My parents wanted me to go to college as they felt it would help me on the business side if I wanted to have my own salon one day, and this was the best decision I ever made.

I ended up going to Oklahoma State University where I graduated in Spring 2021 with my BSBA in Marketing within 3 years. After learning all of the ins and outs of marketing, while minoring in entrepreneurship and management, I developed a large interest on how much it carries a business and the brand as a whole. I decided to change my career path and move into social media marketing. I took an internship at Recreation Dallas (an advertising agency) that Summer and fell in love with the creative agency world. I learned what it took to build a campaign from scratch, re-brand major companies, make trendy social media posts, and so much more. After my internship, I started at The Shop Agency that Fall. Little did I know that this would change my life forever.

I started as a full-time contract employee within account service & social media. Nobody really knew where to put me as my capabilities were still undetermined, but I was willing to try it all. One day, I dove in to editing a TikTok video for Tiff’s Treats Cookie Delivery, one of The Shop’s many clients, and it all changed from there! I ended up becoming The Shop’s Social Media Coordinator to later being their Social Content Manager, and I loved every minute. I received 7 advertising awards that made me feel immense gratitude for my work with the help of my coworkers and bosses. I got to work on so many clients including Major League Rugby, Garrison Brothers, Sōmrus Cream Liqueur, and more over my 3.5 years there. I lead photoshoots, worked on too many campaigns to count, created viral social media content, worked with influencers and models, and more!

Although I loved my job, I always had a passion for the beauty industry, and an opportunity arose that I couldn’t pass up. Hempz is headquartered here in Dallas, TX, and they reached out to me about wanting to hire a Social Media Manager internally. I knew this was the next step I needed to take, so I did! I have now been at Hempz since the end of January 2025, and it has been so much fun working for a company that I literally use in my every day beauty routine. I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity to work for them.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course there were struggles! With every opportunity comes hurdles—you just learn to get better at navigating them each time.

I didn’t start working in the marketing field with a passion for social media, so I naturally had to learn and really do my research when it came to identifying trends, learning how to edit content, studying analytics, and so much more. I had no idea what I was doing, but I accepted that, put on a confident face, and went for it.

The amount of times I spent hours on creating what I thought was a good video or series of posts, and it essentially flopped was heartbreaking. I would see the post go live and then drop off in engagement, and my heart would sink. I would ask myself questions over and over on how I could do better so that it doesn’t happen again.

You have to remember that only YOU can push yourself to do better when it comes down to it. When you feel under water, you are the only person that can recognize that and find a solution to pull yourself out of it, so I did. It may not be enjoyable, and it may make you look weak at times, but it’s worth it to become the best version of you there is.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Everyone has always told me that my job looks so fun, and I can absolutely agree with that statement. Every day is a brand new day when it comes to what I do. One day I will be directing a photoshoot, the next I am creating 5 videos for an upcoming launch, and then I might be traveling to a new city for an influencer event. My favorite part of my job is the unpredictability of my week or the next month of events.

When I think about what sets me apart from others, I would say it’s my work ethic. I don’t like to compare myself because there will always be someone better in the room, and that’s okay, BUT I do take pride in the fact that I will always give 110% in what I do, and there are a lot of people who can’t. It’s a great trait to have. Yes, I am tired. I am always tired; however, I am ecstatic that I get to be the person that gives someone a smile that day or relieve their stress on something they don’t understand. The social media industry isn’t point blank or self-explanatory when it comes to success, but that doesn’t stop me from trying my best.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
This is a hard one! I am blessed with two younger sisters that I am very close with, as well as parents that have been together for over 25 years, so I have a lot of great memories.

One of my favorites is actually with my dad’s mom, who I call my Grandma. Her and I were sitting at the dinner table playing marbles when we were visiting for Christmas, and I was about 12 years-old. I was asking her random questions about her life, how she met her husband, my Papaw, and if she liked what she did growing up. She had told me that she ended up doing something she had never imagined, being the Assistant Dean of Texas Tech’s Health Sciences Center.

When I was between the ages of 8-12, all I ever wanted to do was be a Veterinarian. I remember her saying, “You might want to be a Vet one day, but you may want to be a Teacher the next. Life is full of doing whatever you want,” and I really took that to heart. It was by far one of my favorite memories because I felt a sense of true freedom and creative curiosity at such a young age, and then I won marbles, which is why I think the memory really stuck, lol.
