Meet Mique Chappell of South Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mique Chappell.

Hi Mique, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I discovered aerials in 2021 after taking an aerial yoga class, and it completely opened up a new world for me. From there, I dove into the circus side of aerial arts, exploring every apparatus I could. I would drive all over the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex to train with some truly incredible instructors. I fell in love with the creativity, strength, and freedom that aerial brought into my life, and I wanted to make sure others had access to that same experience.

SkyBound was born from a need for a new studio and a bigger vision for our community. We wanted to build a space that was welcoming, inclusive, and filled with exceptional aerialists and instructors. There was nothing like this in South Fort Worth. Places like Arlington, Burleson, Crowley, Kennedale, Mansfield and other nearby areas were missing the magic of aerial arts. Many others in the community felt alienated or out of place in other spaces, and we wanted to change that. SkyBound is our way of making circus movement feel approachable, fun, and empowering for everyone who walks through our doors.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Finding a space that met the height and safety requirements for aerial equipment took about six months. Once we secured a building, navigating city permits and getting the space ready came with its own set of unexpected challenges, especially since this was all brand new territory for me. I also had to learn a lot about patience, nothing moved as quickly as I hoped!

And don’t even get me started on building a website and figuring out marketing. I’ve had to learn everything from scratch. Between designing pages, social media strategies, and figuring out which hashtags actually work, it’s felt like jumping through a million hoops (and not the circus kind)! But every challenge has made the wins that much more meaningful.

I’ve worked hard to bring in talented instructors from across DFW. Luckily we’ve also had incredible support from others in the industry, studios like Inverted Dance in Alliance and Sky Pole Fitness in Fort Worth have been especially welcoming.

We were also really lucky to have connections with staff from Dallas Circus Center who helped us with the rigging and equipment setup. Their experience was a huge resource in getting everything installed safely and professionally, and we couldn’t have done it without that kind of guidance.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in aerial arts and movement, and I’m known for training all over the Dallas-Fort Worth area with relentless dedication. I’ve worked hard to learn from some of the best in the industry by surrounding myself with instructors and mentors who’ve trained under internationally renowned aerialists. I’m not one to shy away from a challenge, and I never settle when it comes to growth and integrity.

What sets my work apart is the energy and intention behind it. As a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant, I deeply value movement and not just as exercise, but as a tool for healing, empowerment, and expression. I believe strength and joy can go hand-in-hand, and that’s the kind of atmosphere I strive to create at SkyBound.

In my space, you’ll find pieces of everyone who’s inspired me and pushed me to be better. You’ll be celebrated, encouraged, and believed in, whether it’s your first class or your hundredth. I’m most proud of building a place where people feel seen, supported, and strong in their own bodies. We even have stained glass windows featuring aerialists who are part of our community or who’ve inspired us, reminders that we rise higher when we lift each other up.
I also do my best to support local businesses, because when we small business owners lift each other up, we all succeed. Community is at the heart of everything I do.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Absolutely. I find inspiration and guidance from a mix of professional resources and the people around me. Books by physical therapists and fellow aerialists have helped shape both my personal growth and my approach as a studio owner. One person who constantly inspires me is Brit Crumpton, she regularly shares valuable content for aerialists that challenges me to grow and stay curious.

Another major influence has been Dr. Emily Scherb, also known as the Circus Doc. Her continuing education course was not only relevant to my work as a PTA, but also directly applicable to supporting diverse bodies in aerial fitness.

Beyond that, I’m lucky to have a tight-knit circle I lovingly call my “Bermuda Tribe.” These amazing people keep me grounded, inspired, and honest. They remind me to lead with heart, and to stay humble.
