Rising Stars: Meet Emma Johnson of Caddo Mills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Johnson.

Hi Emma, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I believe my love for photography was shaped by my childhood. My grandfather played a huge role in my life, and some of my earliest and most cherished memories are of him with a camera in hand. He was always documenting—recording home videos, capturing snapshots on disposable cameras, and ensuring that every special occasion and ordinary day alike were preserved. At the time, I didn’t realize how important those images would become, but now that some of the most significant people in my life are no longer here, I treasure those photos more than ever. They remind me of the warmth, the love, and the moments that defined my past.

As I got older, my passion for photography only grew. In middle school, I met my best friend—the person who unknowingly helped shape my journey as a photographer. She became my first muse, my go-to model, and my creative partner. Every time we spent time together, our hangouts naturally turned into spontaneous photoshoots. We didn’t need a professional studio or a grand location; we made magic wherever we were. Whether it was at the park, in our homes, during casual walks, or even inside Hobby Lobby, we found ways to turn ordinary places into creative spaces. She was always up for my ideas, no matter how random or unconventional they were. Those early experiences taught me so much about lighting, posing, and storytelling, and more importantly, they instilled in me a love for portrait photography.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey hasn’t always been easy, and I would say one of the biggest challenges has been overcoming self-doubt. The local photography scene is filled with incredibly talented individuals, each with their own distinct style, which makes it a highly competitive field. I’ve had to remind myself that there’s a photographer out there for everyone, and that my style will resonate deeply with the right clients. I’m fortunate to have built a loyal and growing clientele—many of whom return time and again—and working with them continues to be an absolute joy.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I offer a variety of photography services, including cake smashes, engagements, newborn sessions, and I’ve also had the opportunity to capture a few weddings. However, I’m currently shifting my focus toward more intimate sessions such as boudoir and birth photography. There’s something deeply meaningful and personal about those moments that I’m truly passionate about.
I’ve built a reputation for being both reliable and flexible, which I believe is essential in this line of work. I approach each session with an open mind and a collaborative spirit—my clients often come to me with unique ideas, and I love the creative challenge of bringing their visions to life. Communication is a cornerstone of my process, and I take pride in maintaining clear, open dialogue throughout every step. Many clients have shared that this level of communication sets me apart from other photographers they’ve worked with.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Facebook has been an incredibly valuable tool—not just in helping me grow as a photographer, but also in building a sense of community and connecting with like-minded individuals. There are countless groups dedicated to every aspect of photography, as well as to personal and professional development. It’s inspiring to see so many people who share a passion for this art form come together to exchange advice, offer support, and simply connect on a human level. That sense of camaraderie and shared experience has been instrumental in my journey.
