Hi Royce, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My building journey started almost 10 years ago. But that’s not where my story starts. After highschool, I joined the military and left home at 18 years old. I served in the military for 10 years. After the military, I worked as a Network Engineer building networks for large companies. At the age of 37 years old due to stress of my job, I suffered a stroke. After realizing that my employer was looking to replace me before I was clear to come back to work, I decided that I would resign and jump into real estate full time. I flipped a few houses my first year until I decided that I wanted to build. I didn’t make much on my first build project but I learned the process. Since then, I’ve built over 100 houses. I began teaching people how to develop real estate in 2023 when I founded The Gentleman Builder. Since it’s inception, TGB has graduated over 300 builders, some of whom are building $58M worth of real estate in DFW right now. We are the only mentorship for new construction approved by the Texas Real Estate Commission.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing is ever a smooth road. Challenges that I faced along the way was growing too fast. We outran our systems. We also had challenges navigating how to run as a school and get students to really buy in. One of my personal struggles was believing that I wasn’t capable of teaching this to someone and it work.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Life didn’t hand me an easy blueprint — I had to figure things out through hard lessons, long hours, and moments where quitting would have been the easier option. Whether it was growing up without a lot of resources, working 20 years in a high-stress IT career, bouncing back after a health scare, or learning the hard way how to navigate real estate — resilience kept me moving forward when most people would have stopped.
It’s the ability to stay committed to the vision even when the path gets uncomfortable, unclear, or overwhelming.
It’s the mindset of: ‘No matter how long it takes, I will figure this out.’
That resilience is what turned lessons into leverage, mistakes into mastery, and dreams into reality.
And it’s what I now try to instill in every person I mentor — because strategies and skills matter, but without resilience, none of it sticks.
