Today we’d like to introduce you to Tifani Torres.
Hi Tifani, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It has taken a while for me to find where I belong in veterinary medicine. I have practiced in almost every section of vet med from equine, to reproduction, and on to small animal emergency. While I love being a vet, I never felt at peace until I started pursuing a career in alternative medicine and rehabilitation. Movement is a personal passion of mine, and I equally love watching animals freely choose to move and play pain-free. Getting certified in chiropractic was the turning point for me. I found an appreciation for the body’s ability to heal itself and regulate its nervous system. Once I was tuned into triggering the body to heal, I fully dove in. Over time, I began to integrate other modalities to assist in motion, healing, and pain relief. This led to my current practice, Back in Motion Veterinary Services, where I focus on mobility and performance. We see primarily orthopedic and neurologic cases, as well as many healthy animals. My goal for every animal is to be as active as they choose to be.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No journey is complete without stumbles. Early in my career, I reached the point that I wasn’t sure if I wanted to be a vet anymore. I struggled with communicating and suffered from imposter syndrome. While this isn’t uncommon in my field, it is still a devastating feeling. After bouncing around to a few different jobs, I had to make the humbling admission that the common denominator was me. I was choosing to see the negative and allow myself to have a victim mentality. I clearly remember the day I told myself I was done with that. I did a complete mental 180, and I have not been the same person since.
As you know, we’re big fans of Back in Motion Veterinary Services . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I focus on movement in my practice. While I will work on any animal, our primary patients are dogs and horses. We offer acupuncture, chiropractic, laser therapy, shockwave therapy, regenerative joint injections, underwater treadmill therapy and rehabilitation in our clinic. We see quite a variety of patients from dogs that can’t walk due to spinal injuries to show steers that aren’t moving their best in the ring. I pride myself in communicating with my clients and making sure they understand their pets’ diagnosis and the reasons why we are choosing certain therapies. We have created a clinic environment with a spa – like ambiance, and our patients as well as owners are able to relax and enjoy their time spent with us. For horses, I enjoy taking my time to connect with them before doing any treatment, as I find they forever remember the bond we can create during that first session.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Communication is everything. It doesn’t matter how good you are at what you do if your clients don’t feel comfortable with you.
