Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Bowden.
Hi Jennifer, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in DFW and was a secondary fine arts and geography teacher for a decade in two DFW districts. I now serve as director of education at the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth. I hold a BFA and my master’s degree is in international education. My favorite pastimes are travel (35 countries and counting), my artwork (RoundRootStudio), and spending time with my children.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I would describe the road as a winding adventure but very happy where it has led.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve led the education department of the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth for 15 years and love my job.
The nonprofit, nonpartisan Council’s is an engaged community of thinkers inspiring deeper understanding by exploring national and international affairs, systems, and cultures that shape the human experience.
Our Global Young Leaders (GYL) program impacts over 6,000 DFW high school students and nearly 1,000 teacher annually with FREE globally-focused events. These 70+ opportunities range from speakers and career days, to competitions and grants, from volunteering and leadership training, to travel and awards.
I am so proud to lead this amazing program and truly feel it has never been more important. DFW is the 4th most diverse area of the U.S. which I believe is one of our biggest strengths.
If you know a teacher or a high school student that is interested, we would love to work with them! More info at www.DFWworld.org/education/
What matters most to you?
As cliché as it sounds, isn’t it all about making the world better than you found it? I think so.
