Hi Altrim, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started with a conversation between my sister and me about how much we both loved bagels. After we hung up, I decided to try making them at home. We realized it wasn’t as easy as it seemed! After a couple of years of experimenting and adjusting the recipe, we finally got it right. We started making bagels for ourselves—and sharing them with friends and family. Everyone loved them and kept telling us we should open a shop so others could try them too. That’s when we decided to go for it. My brother-in-law, Thomas, came up with the name Saved by the Bagel (he was a big Saved by the Bell fan growing up), and my long-time friend Tony took charge of the operations. At the end of the day, our goal is simple: to serve the freshest, hand-rolled bagels with a little bit of 90’s nostalgia
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a fun journey, but there have definitely been a lot of challenges. Starting a business means you’re constantly running into obstacles—whether it’s figuring out how to make the kitchen more efficient, making sure the bagels are always consistent, or handling all the other moving parts of the business. We’ve had to learn a ton along the way, and we’re always reading, listening to podcasts, and trying new things to keep improving. Our motto is “try to be a little bit better every day,” and we really try to live by that.
We’ve been impressed with Saved By The Bagel, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Saved by the Bagel is a hand-rolled bagel shop with a fun, 90s-inspired feel. We make our bagels the old-school way—boiled and baked fresh every morning. What makes us different is how much care we put into everything. We spent years tweaking our recipe until it was just right. Now, we’re focused on serving great bagels and creating a space that feels welcoming and familiar. At the end of the day, we’re just a small team doing what we love and hoping people enjoy it as much as we do
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
A lot of people are surprised by how seriously we take our bagels. We have a fun vibe and a laid-back atmosphere, but behind the scenes, we’ve spent months perfecting every little detail—like getting the water temperature just right and timing the boil to perfection. We wanted to do things the old-school way: by hand and with care. We want our customers to taste that in every bite.
