Conversations with Sarah Cha

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Cha.

Hi Sarah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I immigrated to the U.S. from Korea at 13 and started working in the restaurant industry at just 16 years old. Eventually, I ran my own restaurant and thought I had reached a stable point in life — until I faced a divorce and suddenly found myself raising my kids alone, with less than $500 to my name. Life was difficult, but I was content as long as my children and I had each other.

Then I met my husband, Adam, a hairstylist and head spa specialist with over 25 years of experience. After we got married, he encouraged me to start a salon business together, and with what little we had — plus help from my father — we opened our first salon. We knew from the beginning that we couldn’t just be another hair salon. We needed something uniquely ours. That’s when we decided to introduce Korean-style head spa — something virtually unheard of in the U.S., especially in Texas.

We didn’t want to offer just relaxation. We wanted to offer transformation. We combined head spa with CO₂ therapy — something we were already using at home to treat our daughter’s skin sensitivities like eczema and psoriasis. CO₂-infused water isn’t just safe — it’s rich in minerals, deeply cleansing, and firming. The CO₂ solution we use has over 7x the minerals of typical hot spring water, and it helps detoxify the scalp and stimulate healthy hair growth. And beyond the ingredients, we believe in the power of human touch — our technique and “golden hands” are unmatched.

We finish every treatment with a full blowout and styling so our clients leave not just refreshed, but confident and beautiful — it’s a luxury experience from start to finish.

But our journey wasn’t easy. People in the local Korean beauty community doubted us from the start — they said our location would never work, that no one would want a head spa, and that we’d shut down within months. The first two weeks, we had days with zero clients. While I stayed optimistic, Adam felt the pressure. He reached out to local influencers on Instagram, and one responded — a fellow Asian woman who wanted to support small businesses.

That collaboration changed everything. From the moment she posted about us, our phones never stopped ringing. We were taking bookings from 5 a.m. to 2 a.m., working 7 days a week. Within weeks, we were booked out for months. Eventually, we had to stop taking new reservations just to maintain our service quality. Some criticized us online — saying we were “too full,” “too expensive,” or “too exclusive.” But we kept our heads down and focused on our mission.

And slowly, the results began to speak for themselves. Today, CHADÂM has been featured in major media, local magazines, and countless influencer posts. We opened our second location in Dallas’s Park Cities — offering upgraded, exclusive services — and we are now planning our third location. We are also developing our own branded products through careful research and testing.

CHADÂM isn’t just a salon. It’s a movement. It’s proof that scalp health is the foundation of beauty and that passion, resilience, and purpose can rewrite your life. We don’t just provide services — we create transformation, inside and out.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road.

In the beginning, many people in the Korean beauty industry and local community didn’t view us kindly. We were met with constant skepticism and criticism — some doubted our concept, others questioned our location, and many assumed we wouldn’t last. It often felt like we were the “ugly duckling” of the industry, always on the outside looking in. But instead of letting those voices discourage us, we stayed focused and poured everything into our work.

Even now, despite how busy we are, we still don’t offer online booking. Every appointment goes through a personal consultation because we believe in customizing the service for each guest and ensuring they understand the full benefit of what we offer. That level of care and personalization takes time — but it’s worth it.

Of course, not everyone understands what a head spa truly is. Some guests, unfamiliar with our service, have refused to pay or even issued credit card chargebacks, simply because they expected a massage instead. But we are not a massage parlor or a nail salon offering trendy head spa add-ons — we are hair and scalp specialists. And while others may imitate, there is a reason we were the first to bring CO₂ head spa to Texas and why we are still the best at what we do.

It’s painful when our work is misunderstood, especially when we’ve built everything on deep knowledge, research, and integrity. CHADÂM is not just another trendy head spa — we are pioneers, and every challenge has only strengthened our commitment to excellence.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At CHADÂM, I’m the founder and owner — but I don’t believe success is meaningful if I’m the only one who grows. What I’m most proud of is not just building a successful luxury salon and CO₂ Head Spa brand, but creating a space where my staff can thrive, learn, and eventually build something of their own.

Our mission isn’t only to provide the highest quality hair and scalp care — it’s to empower future beauty leaders. From the beginning, I told every team member: if you work hard, master your craft, and grow into an exceptional professional, I’ll support you in opening your own CHADÂM location one day. I want our technicians to evolve into managers, owners, and mentors. I want them to rise with us.

My father gave me a loan, and my husband — the head of our technique and training — helped build the backbone of our service. That’s why I want to give that same kind of support to my team.

We used to train every single night after closing. Today, we officially hold classes once a week, but I’ve given keys to my staff so they can practice on their own days off. Any time they ask to learn something, my husband Adam will smile and say yes. That’s the culture we’ve built — rooted in growth, generosity, and shared success.

What sets us apart is not only our unique CO₂ head spa system, our commitment to using premium products, and our expertise in scalp wellness — it’s that our team shares a vision bigger than business: lifting each other up and leading with purpose.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
If you’re passionate about beauty, wellness, and purpose-driven work — I’d love to hear from you. Whether you’re looking to collaborate, learn, or grow alongside us, my door is always open.

I believe growth is endless, and the best kind of learning happens when we work together. If our values align and our goals are in sync, I welcome anyone — regardless of background — to connect and explore what we can build together.

I continue to learn every single day from the people I work with. So if you’re curious, driven, and excited about what we do at CHADÂM, let’s talk.
