Check Out Laketress Jones’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laketress Jones.

Laketress, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Like many others in 2020, I found myself reflecting deeply on the impact I wanted to leave in this world.

I’ve always loved finance — and I’m damn good at it. But over the years, I noticed a pattern: so many young women entered accounting simply because it was considered “a good job.” And it is. But what I do goes beyond that — I blend finance, strategy, project management, and analytics to drive real business decisions. I wanted to show future business leaders that there’s more to finance than just accounting — there’s strategy.

As I started sharing this with others, the vision naturally expanded. Conversations with entrepreneurs and career pivoters revealed a real need — not just for financial education, but for strategic guidance rooted in corporate finance principles.

Today, BWIF is focused on bridging that gap — empowering business owners to apply high-level finance strategy to their everyday decisions so they can scale with clarity and confidence.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Balancing entrepreneurship while working full-time, staying committed to my health, nurturing friendships, remaining active in my faith community, and navigating dating has taught me that there’s no such thing as perfect balance—only intentional prioritization. There are seasons when one area requires more of me than others, and I’ve had to learn how to give myself grace, set boundaries, and build systems that support sustainability, not burnout.

Being an entrepreneur is deeply personal—it demands clarity of purpose, but also the discipline to protect your time and energy. There have been moments where I’ve questioned if I could do it all. But I’ve realized I’m not called to do it all at once. And that mindset shift has allowed me to grow the business in alignment with the life I’m building, not in competition with it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in helping entrepreneurs understand and apply financial strategy—beyond just bookkeeping or tax prep. What sets me apart is that I don’t position myself as a traditional or fractional CFO. Instead, I focus on teaching business owners how to think like a CFO—how to adopt a strategic financial mindset that influences their daily decisions.

I’m most proud of creating tools and templates that make complex financial concepts approachable and actionable. Whether it’s pricing, cash flow, or cost structure, I equip entrepreneurs with the knowledge and systems to not just stay afloat—but to lead their businesses with confidence and clarity.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is spending summers at my aunt’s house with my cousins. As an only child, my cousins feel like my sisters—we’d spend the entire day choreographing dance routines and practicing until it was time to perform for our parents when they got off work. We took it very seriously—costumes, video cameras, everything! Looking back, those summer days were my absolute favorite! And my cousins and I now perform for her girls.
