Conversations with Jessica Graves

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Graves.

Hi Jessica, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started doing hair in 2011, working in a salon where I learned a lot and built up my skills. In 2020, I decided it was time to bet on myself and go independent. Now I rent my own chair and run my business my way.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a little bit of both. Leaving the salon where I started—and where I had been for so long—was scary. It was all I’d ever known, so stepping into the unknown wasn’t easy. On top of that, I had to deal with some legal stuff that made it even more stressful. But once I got through it, everything started to fall into place. It’s been so worth it, and I’ve really loved being able to grow and do things on my own terms.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do extensions, blonding, and dimensional color—those are my main things. But more than that, I really love making my clients feel pampered. I’m all about a good scalp massage, a relaxing shampoo, and making sure the whole experience feels like a treat. What I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve built with my clients over the years. I think what sets me apart is that I genuinely care about how people feel in my chair—not just how their hair looks when they leave, but the whole vibe while they’re with me.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My clients have honestly been the biggest part of my success. Their support and loyalty mean everything. I’ve also had a lot of great mentors along the way—some of them have even become close friends. We still help each other out, share ideas, and talk things through when we need it. And all of my assistants over the years definitely deserve credit too. They help keep things running smoothly, and I’d be lost without them some days!
