From Smooth Skin to Signature Success: The Story Behind Olysis Med Spa
I first heard the word electrolysis in 2004, during a casual drive home from work while listening to a local radio station. The hosts were laughing, trying to decipher the difference between electrolysis and laser hair removal. At the time, I was a full-time kindergarten teacher and part-time bookkeeper—juggling responsibilities while secretly believing I was the only person on the planet struggling with stubborn, unwanted hair. But for the first time, I felt a flicker of hope. Could there finally be a solution?
By the time I pulled into my driveway, I had already Googled the nearest provider and booked my first session.
From the very first appointment, I was hooked—not just by the results (though my skin had never been smoother), but by the entire experience. I started scheduling recurring two-hour sessions every other week, targeting nearly every treatable area on my body. Like many who find healing through transformation, I became a vocal advocate, enthusiastically recommending electrolysis to anyone who would listen—and maybe pushing a few a little harder than that!
But the changes weren’t just skin-deep. My electrologist saw a spark in me—one that was dimming in my role as a teacher. Through countless hours together, she witnessed my growing passion for the craft, and gently nudged me toward something more. In May 2011, I took a leap of faith, leaving behind the classroom to pursue a completely new chapter: a career in Electrology.
To make ends meet during the transition, I leaned on my bookkeeping skills and kept spinning plates—balancing spreadsheets by night and learning the art of hair removal by day. It was hard work, but I quickly realized that my business acumen was a secret strength. It gave me the foundation to turn passion into something lasting.
In June 2013, I officially launched Hair Today Gone Tomorrow Electrolysis. With no entrepreneurial background and no family blueprint for business ownership, I stepped out into the unknown. Thanks to unwavering support from my husband and loved ones, I built a loyal clientele and grew a reputation for compassionate, personalized care.
Then came Jamie.
Jamie was originally a client, just like me, who found her confidence and peace through electrolysis. She later asked me to train her in the technique, and in 2021, she purchased a spa in Roanoke, where she expanded into the world of skincare and aesthetics. Our journeys mirrored one another’s—and it didn’t take long for us to realize that we were stronger together than apart.
In January 2024, we officially merged our two businesses and in January 2025 we rebranded and launched Olysis Med Spa—a name that reflects both our roots in electrolysis and our commitment to holistic, timeless beauty. Today, Olysis proudly serves the greater Dallas–Fort Worth area, offering a curated range of services including electrolysis, advanced facials, skincare, LED light therapy, Botox, and fillers.
We are especially proud to hold the CPE (Certified Professional Electrologist) designation, a national certification that recognizes the highest standard of professionalism in our field. Together, Jamie and I have trained a talented team of electrologists and aestheticians who share our values, our integrity, and our deep commitment to client care.

Looking back, I could never have predicted where this path would take me. From a classroom teacher to a co-founder of one of the region’s leading med spas, I am filled with gratitude. Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This has not been a smooth road at all. While I’m incredibly proud of where we are today with Olysis Med Spa, the journey has been anything but smooth. One of the biggest challenges we’ve faced—and continue to face—is the general lack of awareness around electrolysis. Most people assume that laser is the only hair removal option. It’s everywhere in advertising, and it’s often promoted as the fast, high-tech solution. Because of that, electrolysis is largely overlooked, even though it’s the only FDA-approved method for permanent hair removal.
Convincing people to even consider electrolysis can be a hurdle. Many clients come in thinking they’ve “tried everything,” when in reality, they’ve only tried laser, which often doesn’t work well on certain hair types, skin tones, or sensitive areas. Educating the public on the difference between temporary reduction (laser) and true permanence (electrolysis) takes time, patience, and trust-building.
Another struggle is that electrolysis isn’t a one-and-done service. It’s a process that requires consistency, time, and a level of commitment that some clients aren’t initially prepared for. We live in a world of instant gratification—same-day shipping, on-demand everything—so the idea of investing in a gradual, long-term solution can feel foreign. But when people understand what electrolysis actually offers—freedom from hair removal forever—their perspective begins to shift.
In the early days, this lack of awareness made growth slower and required a lot of one-on-one education. I spent years explaining the science behind electrolysis, busting myths, and helping clients understand why a more permanent solution is worth the investment. But the good news is: once people experience the results, they become lifelong believers—just like I was.
It’s taken resilience, a lot of late nights, and a deep passion for helping people feel confident in their own skin. The road hasn’t been smooth, but every obstacle has reinforced our mission. Today, we’re not just providing a service—we’re helping change the narrative around hair removal and empowering people to make informed decisions about their bodies.
