Today we’d like to introduce you to Zainab Alabi.
Zainab, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Here’s a bit about how I got started and where I am today:
I’ve always been someone who loves creating memorable experiences, whether it’s a surprise birthday, a cozy setup for friends, or planning something special for loved ones. Around the age of 18, I discovered my passion for event planning. I started small, planning and decorating events for friends and family just for fun. It felt natural to me.
During that time, I applied for a job at a trampoline park where I got to plan and host children’s birthday parties. It was a fun and energetic environment, and while I loved the experience, I knew I wanted more.
Later in college, I joined an international student club and served as their event coordinator. That role helped me gain more confidence and hands-on experience organizing events. But it wasn’t until years after graduating that something shifted.
One of my closest friends reached out and said he wanted to propose to his girlfriend, and asked me to help plan it and find vendors. I was genuinely excited and happy to help. As we talked through the plans, I had an idea: what if I not only planned it, but actually created and decorated the entire experience for him? Without hesitation, he trusted me with the vision.
I won’t lie, I was scared. I prayed to God for guidance because I didn’t want anything to go wrong. And by His grace, everything turned out beautifully. That moment changed everything for me. It showed me that I could create whatever I imagined, and I could do it well.
Since then, that one opportunity has opened many doors. It hasn’t always been easy, but I thank God for aligning me with what I truly enjoy, and I’m so grateful to my husband for constantly encouraging me to keep going. Each event I plan reminds me that I’m walking in purpose, doing what I love most: creating memories that last.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
If I said it has been a smooth road, then I’d be lying to myself.
Balancing my full-time role as a Data Privacy Analyst while growing my event planning business has definitely come with challenges. There were times I felt overwhelmed, juggling work responsibilities, client expectations, and creative demands all at once.
I’ve faced many struggles behind the scenes, especially when ordering items from vendors. From delayed shipments to broken items and even being scammed, it’s been tough.
Another struggle was learning how to set boundaries, especially when working with people I care about. At first, I wanted to say yes to everything and help everyone, but I realized that without boundaries, I was burning myself out. I had to find a balance between being professional and staying passionate, without letting the stress take away the joy of what I love doing.
Starting with limited resources was also hard. I didn’t have a huge budget or team, so I had to be creative, resourceful, and patient with my growth. But each challenge has taught me something important—about resilience, faith, and staying true to the vision.
But despite all the bumps in the road, every experience has made me stronger. I’ve learned to trust myself, lean on God, and stay committed to what I love. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it
We’ve been impressed with Eventsbytoza, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m the founder of Events by Toza, a creative event design and planning brand based in the DFW area, serving clients locally and beyond.
At Events by Toza, we specialize in creating intentional, beautifully curated moments that leave lasting memories, from surprise proposals and romantic setups to bridal showers, birthdays, Weddings, and intimate celebrations.
What sets us apart is our attention to detail, personal touch, and passion for storytelling through decor. I don’t just decorate a space, I create an experience that reflects the people being celebrated. I take time to understand each client’s vision and bring it to life in a way that feels effortless, elegant, and unique to them.
We’re known for turning ordinary spaces into dreamy backdrops, and for our ability to transform even the simplest ideas into something magical.
What I’m most proud of brand-wise is the trust my clients place in me. Many come back again and again or refer others because they feel genuinely seen, heard, and celebrated. I don’t take that lightly, it’s an honor every single time.
To anyone reading: if you’re dreaming up a special moment big or small , I’d love to help you bring it to life. At Events by Toza, we believe that memories deserve to be made beautifully.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5 to 10 years, the event industry is going to focus a lot more on making every event really personal and meaningful. Clients want their stories and personalities to shine through. Technology is going to play a bigger role too, with things like virtual or hybrid events becoming more common, so more people can join in.
Plus, smaller, more intimate gatherings are definitely going to be popular because people want quality time with their loved ones. Lastly, I think working closely with other vendors, planners, photographers, content creators will be key to creating seamless, unforgettable experiences. At EventsByToza, we’re already embracing these changes by focusing on unique, personal decor and teaming up with others to make sure every event feels special.
