Today we’d like to introduce you to Ace Kurokami.
Hi Ace, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m an artist from East Oakland, California. I grew up playing instruments since I was 10 years old. I started with piano and fell in love with that. As I got older I taught myself guitar and also how to DJ. Since 2023 I moved to Houston, Texas. I’ve DJ’d many parties and performed at many events. It’s been a pleasure to express myself with others and share my art during my time here.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There’s definitely been struggles along the way. It’s so hard to navigate initially, confusing even. It’s so easy to deny and act like nothings happening. Yet, once the denial is set aside, the reality of it sets in. Life will always have the possibility of being unhappy. Yet, what we do is not anticipate that and just always be prepared to bounce back.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an instrumentalist. I play piano and guitar. I DJ as well. I love what I do. I love alternative music and hip hop so I pull a lot from that. Blending my love for my chemical romance and lil uzi vert together, I create reaaal dope art. All that matters is that I’ve created something I love for me.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m from California so I’m always gonna incorporate my roots into that. I guess people assume I’m “just” one thing. Like naw imma mix that Carti with Deftones n make that shit hit. I’m gonna play what I love to play. Tupac, Kdot, Pierce The Veil. I’m still deeply rooted into black culture but I’m alternative too. I’m not just one cookie cutter kinda thing.
