Meet Sam Sawyers of All DFW

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Sawyers.

Sam, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started when I was 10. I saw a magician on TV.
Every kid goes through a magic phase. I just never put it down.
I got my first gig when I was 13 at Joe’s crab shack in Mesquite where I went to tables and showed close up magic and my dad would wait in the bar.
I made good money for a 13 year old and as I got older I always did it as a side hustle but now at 38 i can do it for a living.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
During covid entertainment was the first to go.
My wife and I had a 2 year old daughter and one on the way during that time.
For the first time I had to quit magic and I immediately got a job at Fedex and Amazon working mornings and nights while my wife stayed home.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Most Magicians stick to one type of audience either corporate/adults or kid shows/ birthday parties. I do both. I have learned that if the adults are drinking during my show it’s the same as doing a kid show.

I also specialize in close-up magic slight of hand tricks.
I’m mostly known for working at a fine dining steakhouse called TEXAS in Richardson. I work there five nights a week doing magic for people who are waiting for their food, I’ve worked there for 13 years.

I’m mostly proud that I can do this to provide for my wife and 2 kids. My wife is a stay at home mom she’s does the real magic.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Magic is not real big in Texas but there are some magic clubs and meet ups but you have to look. We magicians are very secretive.
