Life & Work with Mackenzie Hajjar of PLANO

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mackenzie Hajjar.

Hi Mackenzie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Mackenzie Hajjar, and I have been posting on TikTok since 2020. It all started during quarantine were COVID shut down the whole U.S. So as a bored teenager, I looked for an outlet and found TikTok. I primarily posted about Volleyball until I graduated from High school. I played school and club volleyball up until COVID happened. I gained a decent number of followers by posting reliable volleyball videos.

Once I graduated from high school, I started my secondary education at Texas Tech University. I followed a lot of college lifestyle creators and loved watching their videos. But during my freshman year, I wasn’t consistently posting.

Fast forward to the spring semester of my sophomore year. I started taking my content more seriously. Got my first ever paid collaborations and PR packages. But still A LOT of room for improvement.

Whenever I started my Junior year at Texas Tech. I had just switched my major to Public Relations and started seeing results on my TikTok. I got invited to create content for FOX Big Noon Kickoff and go backstage during the show and the rehearsal. Got to go to a Laniey Wilson and Jackson Dean concert, and various paid collaborations.

I post a lot about Texas Tech and what it’s like to go to school there. I post advice while I do my makeup and or hair. I post day-in-my-life vlogs talking about my day-to-day. I post relatable, funny, and shareable content about my life and being a student.

I can’t wait to see where this leads in my last year of college. I am so grateful and fortunate to be given these amazing opportunities. I strongly believe you don’t make content, you capture your life via content. And I can’t wait to share with you all what comes next.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wouldn’t say it has been a smooth or bumpy road to getting where I am. Not easy, and it’s not instant growth after 1 single post. It takes consistent and creative ideas to see growth.

I honestly haven’t seen a huge jump in my following in a while. And that’s okay, engagement is everything, even more important than follower count, some would say. You have to give people a reason to follow you, and sometimes there isn’t even if they like the video. My views are always changing, and sometimes they’re good and sometimes not. But I have to remember that if I consistently put out quality content, I will get to my goals. It just might not be as fast as I would like.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My Niche is College Lifestyle with a focus on Texas Tech. I love being able to help other students or potential students with questions or advice about Tech. Or just create relevant videos that are shareable and savable.

I post on TikTok, aiming for three posts a day, but sometimes that doesn’t happen. I try and post in buckets, meaning the same style of videos each day. My talking/college advice videos do the best. Where I film at my vanity, putting on my makeup while advising about college, or Texas Tech specific college advice.

Another bucket I post in is relatable college TikToks, usually a short-form video under 15 seconds. An example was a TikTok I posted about missing out on Cotton Fest tickets and being all ready to go with no tickets.

The third bucket I post in is Day in the Life. Where I capture moments from my day and put them all together. Either putting a trendy audio with it or a voiceover. My DIML of a Texas Tech student TikTok does well for me.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I like Plano a lot because I grew up here and have so many memories. I have seen so many different versions of myself in Plano. And I am excited to move back here after I graduate from Texas Tech.

I also love that there’s so much to do and so many different options. With food, entertainment, bars, and ect. Plano is right in the middle of everything, and it’s very convenient.

The only thing I will say is that going out in Dallas is a bit pricey just because of the Uber costs to get there and back. Understandably, the price of the drinks but the fare there and back is pricey.
