Exploring Life & Business with Amara Yachimski of Rootbound to Bloom

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amara Yachimski.

Hi Amara, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
“Open heart, open mind.” Those were the words my mother would say when I grew frustrated riding my horse — when he wasn’t listening, when I wasn’t getting what I wanted from our time together. She’d remind me to breathe, to reset myself and the experience, to remember he was simply giving me feedback from his perspective. As I softened, I’d feel his ribs expand and contract, a mirror of my breath, and we’d continue our ride as if nothing had happened, renewed in our connection and calm.

To say my mother was my inspiration is an understatement. Her commitment to her own healing journey late in life taught me it’s never too late to find serenity, and that our actions ripple outward. When she passed from Leukemia in 2016, I stopped riding entirely. I felt lost, disconnected, and unmoored from my purpose. I barely completed my undergraduate degree, finding temporary solace as a barista in central Texas. But my heart yearned for more. Slowly, I found my way back to horses and to helping others, eventually working as a ranch hand and equine-assisted learning specialist at a local resort. There, I knew I had found my calling: guiding others through their own labyrinths of self-discovery using my lived experience, my healing journey, and the lessons learned along the way.

A year after completing my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Southern Methodist University — where I focused on the intersection of neuroscience, art therapy, and trauma — I brought my vision to life. I created Rootbound to Bloom, a brand that embodies my core belief about healing: you are never too much or not enough; you simply need the right place to grow.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every road has its bumps. As a survivor of childhood trauma, I’ve faced many of them head-on, something that allows me to relate to my clients on a much deeper level. Having both of my parents pass while in my twenties led me to face realities at a much faster pace than I had expected, but also created opportunities for me to move forward in any direction I wanted to, without anything holding me back. Creating my own business, applying to and completing graduate school, and cultivating a new definition of family have given me a sense of resilience that I believe makes my experience both unique and relatable to those who have endured similar difficulties.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Rootbound to Bloom?
Rootbound to Bloom is the name of my counseling business, based in the small town of Farmersville, Texas. I work through two agencies, AltNarratives and the Resource Center of Dallas, where I am contracted and provide care to clients throughout the state of Texas, but I utilize Rootbound to Bloom as a hub for everything counseling, to give clients and others a sense of who I am at my core and what they can expect from our sessions together. When you come to a session with me, you can expect to feel like someone has finally seen you, that the veil or the mask has been lifted. It can be vulnerable for people at first, but I prioritize creating an intentional warmth to our sessions that permeates week to week and allows for our rapport to keep blossoming. My theoretical orientation is focused on incorporating neuroscience, such as somatic practices (body-awareness) and nervous-system regulation, to help clients who have experienced trauma feel safe and secure in their bodies. As a musician, I also love to include aspects of the expressive arts, like drawing, painting, music, dancing, and anything else clients may want to bring into the session to express themselves. On top of all of this, there is one element that has never left my life – horses. I offer Equine-Assisted Counseling at a local ranch where I board my own horse, and provide counseling in a highly specialized form that can be extremely beneficial for clients who don’t find healing through traditional talk therapy. I believe that all of these offerings make Rootbound to Bloom truly unique; it’s just as flexible and individualized as the clients I see.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I relocated to the Dallas area in 2019 and have truly enjoyed living here! As the daughter of a chef, I praise Dallas for its foodie-friendly destinations, thriving art community, and growing coffee shops! My fiancée and I love to go to the Cedar Springs area and walk around, go shopping, buy plants, and just experience the area where she went to college. When I was going to graduate school, I also really enjoyed being able to use public transportation. As most people would probably say, the traffic can get a little hectic, and I do wish there were more walkable areas in Dallas, but overall, I enjoy the days we make a day trip into town.
