ALEX JOHNSON shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi ALEX, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I would say the very thing that makes me most proud of during a Covid Pandemic in 2020 would I became Barbershop Owner being a 2nd generation Barber/Owner after that Fact that my Parents also in the same profession that they retired from, now Here I Am💯👌🏽🤟🏾🙏🏽👊🏽👊🏽

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Alex Johnson 2nd Generation Barber, Businesses owner of Dapper Kutz Barber Lounge LLC which opened up in Covid Pandemic of 2020, now 5 years running that took alot of Grinding, Praying, Staying Humble an never Faulter from the Plan of the Blessing that was giving to me as Grow and Elevate in business in a Lane that is Saturated now even more with upcoming Shops.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
2020 Covid Pandemic reshaped alot of things in People, Business & work Ethic to Succed an go and Grow further in any business Venture or Career that anyone can think of. I adapted to t he Change made the Pivot to gain more Clientele, excel in Marketing an promoting myself not with just good service but People Skills, Consistency to my clients an be9ng available need be. Which grow my Clientele tremendously cause what i i caught to is even tho, I am in a Saturated lane of orher Competitive Barbers. No one makes themselves Available meaning dependable when the client call sor showing up for a service. So those minor prices to.puzzle excel my Clientele plus Networking & Socail Media helped alot.

When did you last change your mind about something important?
Before the Covid Pandemic i and a clothing i was pursuing along with Cutting hair as well to get started an put more focus into when I received the phone to pursue another passion of.mind which was always embedded in me since I started cutting hair. An that was to own my Barbershop to be more successful i servicing clie ts to another level. An at that time the clothing was going at a slow pace an i knew i had to come to a decision to pur the clothing line on the back burner, an I put all my focus into Barbershop upon receiving the call for ownership in 2020 which was right at the time of the Covid Pandemic yet a blessing but a trying.time as well with no staff an it was just basically was when.i k ewe the important decision at the.time was to put the Clothing line aside an grow my Clientele now in ownership an excel to newer heights.. So the Clothing still exist, but I also have more time to better the brand an ideas with the merch line to go further that I can also incorporate with shop now that I own business. I have more flexibility & time to Pivot and combine the 2 ventures together.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
The project that I am most committed to an really I wouldn’t call it a project its reallly my passion an that’s is being a Professional Barber. 2nd Generation Barber Both Parents also ha e a Passion in this lane as well an are Both Retired now, Father a Professional Barber & My Mother a Professional HairStylist. So I knew becoming a owner would require alot of responsibility an i was up for the task. So I knew my Strengths would be tested an surpassed them with flying colors, cause its been 5years in Ownership, made it.thru Covid an still going strong.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
The Level of Excitement of where I am today is overwhelming but yet steady Grind & Work at the same time. The day of Excitement actually really kicked in once everything was finalized that I officially became a shop owner in 2020 of the Covid Pandemic. The city gave me the green to open for busniess, very surreal. Now 2025 5years in so the Excitement never really stopped. Alot of shops didn’t make it after Covid, an yet alot of new pop up shops came into play which made the game more competitive. That would be the most Pivotal point of my career at this stage is to continue to do me, an in this Profession there is no competition with others only with myself to Succed and push harder even more for Greatness.
