Patricia McCoy shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Patricia , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
What People Might Misunderstand About The G.O.A.T. Experience
• Not just locs: We specialize in braids, Microlocs, consulting, and education.
• More than a salon: We provide training, mentorship, and a network of stylists.
• Accessible growth opportunities: For beginners, shadowers, and experienced stylists.
• Expertise matters: Our techniques, maintenance, and business strategies are professional-level.
• Vision and evolution: The G.O.A.T. Experience is about leveling up, evolving, and creating a community of excellence.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?

I’m Patricia McCoy, a braider, loctitian, and educator dedicated to elevating natural hair care and styling. Through The G.O.A.T. Experience (Giving Others Advanced Training), I provide expert braid and Microloc services, while also mentoring stylists, collaborating with barbers, and building a community of skilled professionals.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with my kids. My children are both mirrors and teachers. Being a mother has shaped me in ways I never imagined. My kids have shown me my strength, patience, and capacity to love unconditionally. They’ve taught me resilience, purpose, and the power of intentional growth. Through them, I’ve learned not just who I am, but who I strive to become every day. 🖤
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You are doing your best, growing every day, and creating a life and business that reflects your strength, skill, and heart. It’s okay to evolve, and it’s okay to honor yourself along the way.🖤
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
What you see is what you get. The public version of me is the real me—authentic, hardworking, and always striving to grow. As a mother, a business owner, and an educator, I show up fully, embrace change, and pour my heart into everything I do. This is me, unapologetically, and I’m proud of the journey I’m on.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I retired tomorrow, my customers would miss:
• Authenticity – the realness and heart I bring to every interaction
• Customer Service – the care, attention, and personal touch I give each client
• Professionalism – my skill, expertise, and high standards in every service
• The Vibe – the welcoming, uplifting energy that makes them feel seen and valued
It’s more than just hair—it’s the experience, connection, and trust I’ve built with every client.
