Brittney (Pnk) Hawkins shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Brittney (Pnk), we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My husband and I recently added a german shepard puppy named Kano to our family. I didn’t realize how much having a puppy would bring joy and fun and daily responsibility but in a good way.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey everyone! I’m Pnk the Barber, based in Frisco, TX. I’ve been in the industry since 2018 and have loved every single step of this journey.
For years, I moved from shop to shop until my husband and I decided to take the leap and get our own suite. We ran that suite for 5 years, and when our lease was coming up, we faced a big decision — sign another lease or make our next big move.
While figuring things out, we stumbled across an office condo with 4 rooms. I called the number, we toured the space, and instantly saw the vision. The best part? It was already pre-plumbed — or so we thought. Turns out, that “plug and play” dream came with a huge surprise: a major plumbing bill.
We even tried a GoFundMe, but out of our $15,000 goal, we raised $100. Instead of letting that stop us, we kept working hard and eventually got it done.
Now, The Colossal Suites is becoming a reality — a private salon suite space in Frisco with:
– 2 rooms for yearly leases
– 1 room for daily & weekly rentals
Our mission is simple: help other beauty professionals build their brands while showing them the endless possibilities when you have the right people in your corner. We’ll be offering marketing support for our tenants, hosting events, classes, and creating a space that you’ll be proud to call home.
This is more than just a workspace — it’s a movement. #TheColossalWay
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My husband. He’s without a doubt my biggest supporter — my cheerleader on the days I don’t feel like moving, and my push when I start to doubt myself. Honestly, so many of the things I’ve accomplished started with him saying, “That’s a great idea. You’d be amazing at it.”
He believes in me even when I don’t, and that’s shaped the way I see myself — as capable, resilient, and worthy of chasing big dreams. Kano, our puppy, has only added to that energy in our home, reminding me every day that I’ve got love and encouragement surrounding me in everything I do.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I would say my biggest fear has always been failing and disappointing myself. Honestly, it’s always been me vs. me. I spend a lot of time in my own head, and the crazy part is, my self-talk often ends up becoming reality.
For example, I always knew I loved hair growing up, but I never imagined that years later I’d be running my own business — and doing it alongside my husband, who’s also my amazing business partner. If I had let that fear win, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
I still struggle with it, even now. The difference is, I’ve learned to work around it. Sometimes I use that fear as motivation… though I’ll be honest, that’s not always the case. But every day I push through it, I prove to myself that fear doesn’t get the final say.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes! I’m a big believer in being unapologetically myself. I’ve always been the “crazy” girl doing things differently — coloring my hair all the time, taking risks others might not be bold enough to try. I think that’s why I fell in love with my craft.
As an artist, I get to fully be who I am without dimming my light for anyone. That authenticity is exactly why I’ve kept 97% of my clients — they see that I’m real, and they connect with it. I show them they can be themselves too, and be perfectly okay with that.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Oh, that’s easy — that feeling started the day we opened The Colossal Suites. If I had known how satisfying it would be to turn the key to my own building, I would’ve done it years ago… haha, just kidding! I truly believe in timing.
If this opportunity had come two years earlier, I don’t think I would have been ready. But now? This is the right time, the right moment. I’m ready for The Colossal Suites, and I’m confident in what we’re building and what we’ll accomplish.
