We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sudha Srinivasamoorthy. Check out our conversation below.
Sudha, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
The most common misconception about my business is people think it is just baking cakes for fun and it is a pretty chilled out job that anyone can do. There is more to running a cake business than just baking, a lot happens behind the scenes which no one knows. Like building a website, curating a menu, making a streamlined process to ensure smooth order Inquiries, Inventory management, Planning, Design meetings with clients, Research and practice to keep up with the current techniques in cake Artistry, final execution and Delivery. Like any other business, Cake Industry also follows a waterfall methodology to make sure clients get the best experience while working with us. So, yes it is not just a hobby or for fun. Running a Home based cake studio is like running any other company but you get to work around yummy treats 24*7.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Sudha, Cake Artist, Baker, and owner of Sudha’s Cake Studio and a Certified Cake Decorator from Le Cordon Bleu, London.
We are a Certified and Registered Home bakery based out of McKinney, TX. We specialize in creating Custom Cakes for Weddings and all Special Occasions along with Desserts.
Before getting into this world of Caking, I was a Software Professional working in IT. When my daughter was born, I promised myself I would bake cakes for every Birthday for her and after I quit my IT job, I had time and energy to focus on Baking as a hobby. Slowly, this hobby turned into Passion and now into full time profession.
Cakes for me is more than just flour and sugar, it is a form of Art. Each cake we create is carefully crafted with having client’s requirement in mind and staying true to my art form at the same time. Having a professional background, when I started this business I made it a point it has to be professional and need to stand out from the rest. I designed our business website, created an order streamline process thereby making sure clients will have a wonderful experience throughout.
Cakes are usually a center piece at any party. Our motto is to create something Artistic for your special occasion which not only looks unique and beautiful but also tastes great at the same time. All our cakes are Egg Free, only with Buttercream and not fondant and we really love designing cakes which are Eloquent.
Our clients are the most integral part of the brand as the feedbacks both good and bad helps us do much better always. Our brand was built by just passion and dreams and we are proud of what we create. There are couple of flavors which we offer brings in our culture from India and combine it with western flavors which are one of a kind and delicious. Apart from Cakes we offer other Desserts like Cupcakes, Macarons, Cakesicles, Cake Jars, Assorted Treat boxes for gifting needs and can design a whole Dessert table for your parties. If you are looking for something creative, unique in style this is your place.
We are a one woman team for now where I handle Inquiries to Deliveries and everything in between. Hopefully in the near future I will have a separate studio space and additional Employees to serve bigger and better.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My Parents. Both were working full time careers yet doing what they truly love and believe in the side which shaped their lives and earned tons of happiness for themselves and many people were benefited by their work as well. That taught me there is more to life than just earning money and whatever work we do we need to give our one hundred percent. Being kind and empathetic is also part of work other than just doing your job.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Trust in yourself, is the one kind thing I would say to my younger self.
Trust in yourself. I know the world feels big and uncertain, and you think you need to have all the answers before you take the next step. But the truth is, you’re allowed to move forward even while you’re figuring things out. You’ve already survived moments you thought would break you, and you will survive so much more. Listen to that quiet voice inside — the one that feels like truth, even when you can’t explain why. It will guide you better than fear ever could. You are braver than you believe, wiser than you know, and more capable than you can yet imagine. One day, you’ll look back and realize you were becoming exactly who you needed to be all along.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
The phrase written by the South Indian Tamil poet Kaniyan Pungundranar, “Yaadhum Oore Yaavarum Kelir”.
It is a famous phrase meaning “To us, all towns are one, and all people are our kin” or “Every place is my place, and every person is my relative”. This ancient Tamil concept emphasizes universalism, oneness, and interconnectedness among all people. It suggests that one should not be limited by narrow ideas of nationality or kinship, but rather embrace a broader sense of belonging to all places and people.
I strongly believe and protect this beautiful cultural value.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope they say I was a good person first and inspired others in a positive way and I would be happy if I had created a positive impact in at least a single person in my lifetime. I hope I left people better than I found them, brought them happiness. that they tell about how I made real connections and valued friendships.
