Story & Lesson Highlights with Sona Pokharel of Dallas

Sona Pokharel shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Sona, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I’m definitely an early bird. My friends think I’m a little crazy, but I’m usually up by 5 or 5:30 AM (yes, even on weekends). The first thing I do is drink warm water, then hop on my vibration plate for about 10 minutes to wake my body up and get the blood flowing. I recently got into Pilates, and I’m obsessed, so I’m off to my 6 AM class most mornings.

After my workout, I treat myself to a cozy mushroom coffee; it’s my little morning hug in a mug. Then I spend a few minutes on gratitude and manifesting, which really keeps me grounded and excited for the day. I take my dog out for a quick walk so we can both get some fresh air, and somewhere in there, I’m usually brainstorming content ideas or loosely planning my day.

Mornings are when I have the most energy, so I protect that time – it’s my reset, my creative spark, and honestly my favorite part of the day.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Sona – a lifestyle influencer with a big love for fashion, self-care, and connecting with people in a way that feels real. I’m all about mixing it up: some days it’s an easy, comfy look; other days it’s a bold statement with accessories that do all the talking. I share those little style moments along with my favorite self-care rituals because I truly believe that when you feel good in your outfit and take time to care for yourself, it changes your whole mood.

But more than outfits and beauty products, my heart is in building a community where people feel safe, seen, and uplifted. Social media can be a noisy, overwhelming place, so I want my corner of the internet to be one that spreads positivity, encouragement, and genuine connection.

And because I can’t sit still for long, I’m always dreaming up what’s next. I’ve got something exciting in the works, but for now, I’m keeping it under wraps. Let’s just say… you’ll want to stick around for the reveal.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Bonds between people can break for so many reasons, miscommunication, misunderstandings, a lack of accountability, or only seeing things from your own perspective without considering how your actions impacted the other person. When someone isn’t truly sorry or doesn’t try to understand and validate the hurt they’ve caused, trust starts to fade, and distance grows.

Restoring those bonds takes more than just words or promises; it’s about consistent, genuine effort. It’s taking full responsibility for your actions, being honest, and showing through your behavior that you’re committed to making things right. Real reconciliation takes patience and authentic intention. At the end of the day, it’s not the promise that matters most, but the actions that prove it.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could go back and talk to my younger self, I’d tell her to stop trying to control every outcome and just enjoy the moment more. I spent so much time worrying about the future, overthinking, and trying to plan every step that I sometimes missed the beauty of the present. Life will rarely go exactly as you plan, and that’s okay. Some of the best things happen when you let go, trust yourself, and embrace the uncertainty.

I’d also remind her that not everyone who comes into your life is meant to stay forever. Some people are there for a reason, a season, or a lesson, and each serves its purpose in shaping who you become. Holding on too tightly can keep you from growing, while letting go with grace creates space for what’s truly meant for you.

And about those goals, there’s no deadline. Society loves to give us invisible clocks, but your journey is yours alone. Focus on your dreams, yes, but also enjoy the process, celebrate small wins, and protect your energy. Stay authentic, say no when you need to, and never let anyone take advantage of your kindness. Your worth isn’t defined by approval; it’s defined by how true you stay to yourself.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
The cultural value I would protect at all costs is the deep respect and love for family and elders that is at the heart of Nepali culture. Respecting our elders isn’t just about manners; it’s about honoring their wisdom and sacrifices. It’s about taking care of our family, putting loved ones first, and loving them unconditionally, being there for them just as they’ve always been there for us. People come and go, relationships may break, but to me, the bond of family is something sacred-something I keep close to my heart. It’s a forever bond that keeps us grounded, connected, and rooted in compassion and gratitude, no matter what life brings.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
lol well… If I only had 10 years left, responsibility would go straight out the window. No more saving for retirement or worrying about a rainy day fund. I’d spend it all on the things that make me happy. Luxury bags, sparkling jewelry, ridiculous amounts of diamonds… why not? I’d wear whatever I want, hop on planes to anywhere, and probably quit my job to become a full-time travel bum.

I’d finally buy that over-the-top sports car, go on wild vacations, and maybe even hire a personal chef so I could eat lobster every single day. Honestly, if the countdown’s ticking, I’d trade “being the responsible adult” for living life out loud, messy, sparkly, and unapologetically fun.
