Hadi Umayra of Readers & Writers. on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Hadi Umayra and have shared our conversation below.

Hadi, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What battle are you avoiding?
The battle I am avoiding is the internal struggle with myself. Throughout my life, this battle has evolved—from the innocence of childhood to the confusion of teenage years and the clarity of maturity. The hardest phase is adulthood, where I understand life differently, distinguishing right from wrong. Recently, I chose to avoid wrongdoing, focusing on actions that neither harm others nor myself. For me, wrong means anything that disrupts harmony and causes unhappiness. My ultimate goal is to purify my soul, embracing honesty, trust, and respect. I want to live transparently, expressing only what I truly mean and trusting others as I wish to be trusted. Though this path is challenging, I believe that life can cleanse our souls, restoring the purity we were born with. Staying true to this mission helps me avoid the battle with inner negativity and strive for a life of integrity.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Hadi Umayra, the author of Mind’s Gravity: Pandemic Has No Smell and several other published works. As a writer and thinker, I delve into the profound mysteries of life, the human mind, and the unseen forces that shape our existence. My books explore themes that challenge conventional perspectives, blending science, philosophy, and spirituality to inspire deeper understanding and reflection. My passion lies in uncovering the hidden truths of our universe and fostering meaningful connections through my work.
Currently, I am embarking on an exciting new project to explore how the sky has been constructed and elevated. My research focuses on discovering the layers responsible for sustaining the sky and the hidden materials—pillars—that connect the earth and sky. These invisible elements, I believe, create the illusion of an endlessly high sky and hold the key to understanding the intricate relationship between the heavens and the earth.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
This question leads me to reflect on my body’s parts, and I choose my brain as the one that has served its purpose and must now be released. My brain has been my greatest tool, tirelessly working to generate thoughts, ideas, and visions that have shaped my journey. It has served me well, helping me understand life, make decisions, and dream boldly. However, I believe the time has come to release its treasures and share them with the world.
The thoughts and ideas that once lived only within me are now ready to inspire and connect with others. By sharing my perspective, I aim to contribute to the collective wisdom of humanity, offering my insights for the benefit of all. This act of releasing my mind’s work allows me to fulfill my purpose, transforming what once served me alone into something that can serve the world.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering, as I define it, is a deeply personal experience that varies from one individual to another. What feels like suffering to me may not resonate with others in the same way. For me, suffering is not just hardship or pain—it is the ladder that elevates me toward success. Each step of this ladder represents a challenge, and with every climb, I move closer to my goals.
Suffering has taught me resilience, patience, and the ability to adapt—lessons that success alone could never impart. Success, in contrast, feels like the reward for enduring those difficult steps. Yet, in my view, suffering and success are interconnected, two faces of the same coin. Both shape me, teach me, and guide me along my journey of growth. Together, they create balance, pushing me to become a better version of myself. Without suffering, my success would lack depth and meaning.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I protect at all costs is the balance between my original and acquired cultures. As an immigrant, I feel as though I have been born twice—first into the culture of my homeland, and later into the culture of my new home. This duality is both a challenge and a gift, as it allows me to experience life from two distinct lenses.
The original culture, my mother culture, defines who I am. It is rooted in traditions, customs, rituals, language, and values that shaped me from birth. On the other hand, the acquired culture is a new layer added through living in a different society, offering new ways of thinking and behaving. While these two cultures may sometimes conflict, I view them as complementary.
Protecting both cultures ensures I honor my identity while embracing growth. Together, they form the essence of who I am—a bridge between two worlds that I carry with pride.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
The story I hope people tell about me when I’m gone is that I was the creator and pioneer of Ramified Poetry, a unique and innovative poetic form. I hope they share how I envisioned shaping poetry with the hexagonal structure, crafting a style that allows each poem to branch out into five different readings, each producing its vivid image.
I want to be remembered as the one who united creativity and structure, setting clear rules for this art form while inspiring others to explore its depths. My journey began in Arabic, and through self-translation into English, I bridged linguistic and cultural divides, making Ramified Poetry accessible to a global audience.
I hope my legacy is one of invention, vision, and passion—a poet who introduced a new way to experience language and meaning, and whose work continues to inspire creativity in others long after I’m gone.
