Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Nora Maria Garcia of Plano

Nora Maria Garcia shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Nora Maria, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Oh boy, well I usually get up around 8:30 and get myself ready for the day ahead. I dress for my professional dance practice, and pack a separate outfit for teaching all day. I meal prep in the morning, (though I usually skip breakfast), get outside and take our dogs for a walk every morning and then head to the dance studio for practice! Stretch, warm up, make my first cup of coffee, practice. Then I have some sort of snack and begin the work day of teaching dance lessons til 9:30pm! Go home, make dinner, watch a show, and start the night routine of getting to sleep. It’s long!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Yes! I’m Nora Maria Garcia, I’m a professional ballroom dance competitor, certified instructor, makeup artist, content creator, all around beauty, fashion, dance guru for you.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Honestly, a lot of my dance coaches, wether it be the first time working with them or the 100th time working with them, part of their expertise is being able to understand how you are in order to coach you better and some have understood or caught things about me that I’ve never seen or thought about. It’s brought me to grow and realize so many things about myself.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
About three years ago when I moved across the country from Florida to Texas. It upset others. I feel like I did a big scary thing and I was sitting on so much my whole life there and honestly at the end of the day, it was sitting on me. And I didn’t see a future there that I wanted to be part of, especially the way things were going and what was established there. I had outgrown some things, and grew to gain larger opportunities that would give me not only stability physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. And I that was something I was 100% needing.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
I can confidently say that it is.
Part of my appeal? I guess, that’s the word we’re going with, is that I am a very determined, all or nothing type of person and that I am deeply unserious and have ADHD that can’t really be masked so what you see and what you get is a lot of energy, hyperactivity, creative and crazy ideas and a good laugh wether it’s at me or with me!

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I honestly believe 1000% that I am doing what I was born to do. Every aspect of my life yes, drives me harder, can be overwhelming, but scratches a mental itch each day in a multitude of ways. A normal job/life would not be sustainable for me mentally or physically. I need variety and creativity and a fast pace to thrive and I have that. And I’m pushing myself further each day. I’m very grateful but also proud of my current life.
