Story & Lesson Highlights with Rafael Aguilar of Germany Park

We recently had the chance to connect with Rafael Aguilar and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Rafael, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Running and training have been a big source of joy for me lately. It’s helped me stay focused and energized throughout the week. I’ve found it to be a great way to clear my mind and stay balanced outside of work. It is also the perfect excuse to see some of my friends.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Rafael Aguilar. I work as an industrial engineer in healthcare, where I focus on improving systems that support better patient care. Outside of work, I recently kicked off a marathon training plan with Not Your Average Running Club as we prepare for the BMW Dallas Marathon. It is an exciting way to connect with others and stay active while working toward a big goal. We will start on August 24.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Turning 25 was a big milestone for me. It’s when I really committed to my workout routines and started prioritizing my health. That shift made me realize how important it is to take care of myself, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too. It has changed how I approach life and the world around me.

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
After failing hard, I realized that what really held me back was not trying at all. I used to wait, overthink, and let fear stop me before I even started. Now I’ve learned that trying, even if it doesn’t go perfectly, is always better than staying stuck in place.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would probably say that discipline really matters to me. I care deeply about my family and friends, and I try to show up for them in every way I can. I also believe in being honest and saying things as I see them, even when it’s not easy.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What will you regret not doing?
If I don’t push myself, I know I’ll regret it. I need to keep growing and challenging myself because that’s how I become better. When I do that, I hope the people around me feel inspired to do the same.
