Dr. Otis Lee Perkins shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Otis Lee, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
What am I chasing? I’m chasing health—not perfection, but a deeper connection with my body, my environment, and my purpose. And the truth is, that chase never really ends. But I don’t see that as a burden—I see it as a gift.
The journey toward health is not a straight line with a final destination. It’s a living, evolving relationship with myself. There’s always more to learn, more to uncover, and more layers to heal. Each step brings new awareness, new insight, and a new opportunity to grow.
If I were to stop chasing, I might lose that sense of curiosity and momentum that fuels not only my own well-being, but the care I offer others. The beauty of this endless pursuit is that it keeps me engaged, present, and humbled. It reminds me that health isn’t just something to get—it’s something to live. And I choose to keep showing up for that, every day.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Dr. Otis Perkins, founder of “Healing Humans”, a Doctor of Chiropractic with a deep passion for natural healing and whole-body wellness. My approach goes beyond just spinal health—I’m committed to helping people reconnect with their bodies, recharge their energy, and live in alignment with nature’s rhythms.
My work blends traditional chiropractic care with a holistic lens, integrating movement, nutrition, mineral balance, and energetic restoration. I founded my practice with the intention of creating a space where people feel truly seen, supported, and empowered to take ownership of their health—not just manage symptoms, but understand the root causes and heal from within.
What makes my practice unique is that I don’t just focus on adjustments. I focus on alignment in every sense—physical, emotional, and energetic. I believe your body was designed to heal, and my job is to help remove the interference and create the conditions for that healing to happen.
Right now, I’m expanding into more educational content, lifestyle tools, and community resources to support healing not just inside the clinic, but in people’s everyday lives. I’m excited to keep building something that bridges modern science with ancient wisdom—and helps people feel strong, vibrant, and fully alive.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that truly shaped how I see the world began during my college years. I started out studying biology, expecting to uncover the secrets of life. But the deeper I got into it, the more it felt like I was just memorizing facts—pathways, definitions, terms—without really understanding the deeper mechanisms behind them. I wasn’t seeing the full picture; it felt like I was missing the “why.”
So, I pivoted to chemistry. I loved the structure, the math, the challenge of problem-solving. There was more logic, more form, and I enjoyed that. But even then, something was missing. I couldn’t see how I could use it to explain life in a meaningful, connected way. It felt like I was learning systems in isolation from the bigger story of how we, as humans, function in harmony with the universe.
Then I found physics—and everything changed.
Studying physics felt like someone had handed me a new lens to see the world through. I dove into wave mechanics, fluid dynamics, electromagnetism—all these forces that govern the invisible and visible movements of life. But what really opened my mind was when I began learning how stars are formed: how immense clouds of gas and dust collapse under gravity, triggering nuclear fusion and birthing light into the cosmos. From that point, I couldn’t see the world the same way again.
To think that every element in our body—every mineral, every trace of calcium, magnesium, iron—was forged in the heart of a dying star blew my mind. We aren’t just *in* the universe; we *are* the universe. That realization led me into biophysics, where I started to bridge the gap between the cosmic and the cellular.
I began seeing the same patterns in the stars and galaxies reflected in the human body—in wave interactions, in fluid flow, in energy fields. And the more I studied, the more I understood that health isn’t just about isolated systems or symptoms. It’s about alignment with the natural laws that govern all life. That awareness shifted my entire path.
It’s what ultimately led me to chiropractic and holistic health—where I could bring together science, energy, structure, and intuition to help people reconnect with themselves in a deeper way. It wasn’t just a change in academic focus—it was a total shift in consciousness. And I’ve been living and working from that space ever since.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me presence. It taught me to slow down and truly feel—to sit with discomfort instead of rushing to fix it or hide it. Success often feels fast, loud, and celebrated. But suffering is quiet. It strips things down to the core. It asks deeper questions.
When I was going through my own challenges—physically, mentally, and emotionally—it forced me to stop performing and start listening. To my body. To my intuition. To life. It taught me patience. Compassion. It showed me what real strength looks like—not powering through, but allowing myself to be vulnerable, to break open, and still choose to rebuild.
Success never demanded that kind of honesty from me. Suffering did. And in that space, I found clarity—not just about who I am, but why I do what I do. It deepened my empathy for others in pain and gave me a much more grounded purpose in my work. I don’t just want people to thrive when life feels good—I want to help them find meaning, resilience, and healing when it doesn’t.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
An important truth that very few people seem to agree with me on is just how *deeply* important true hydration is. People often roll their eyes when I bring it up, or they say, “Yeah, yeah, I drink water,” like it’s a minor checkbox on a health to-do list. But I’m telling you—hydration is everything.
I’ve seen some of the worst cases in my practice where people are dealing with fatigue, joint pain, brain fog, poor sleep, anxiety—you name it—and at the root of it all is severe, long-standing dehydration. And I’m not just talking about drinking a few glasses of water a day. I’m talking about cellular hydration—getting minerals back into the body, restoring the body’s electrical conductivity, and allowing fluid to move efficiently through tissues, fascia, joints, and even the brain.
People love to argue with me on this. They’ll say, “I drink plenty of water,” or “That can’t be the problem,” but their bodies tell a different story. Muscles are stiff, skin is dry, digestion is sluggish, and nervous systems are fried. And when we correct the hydration—not just with water, but with the right balance of minerals and practices that support fluid movement throughout the body—the changes are profound.
To me, hydration isn’t optional. It’s foundational. It’s not just about quenching thirst—it’s about restoring function at the most fundamental level. And I’ll keep repeating that truth, even if it’s not popular, because I’ve seen what happens when people start truly hydrating—and I’ve seen what happens when they don’t.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m doing what I was born to do—without a doubt. But it wasn’t always that way.
For a while, I followed the path I thought I was *supposed* to take. Study hard, pick a respectable field, stick to the script. I did all that. But deep down, something was missing. I was gaining knowledge, but not purpose. I wasn’t waking up excited—I was just moving through the motions.
The shift happened when I started paying attention to what truly drew me in. I was fascinated by nature, energy, the patterns of the universe, and how they all show up in the human body. Even before I knew what chiropractic was, I felt this deep pull to work with the body in a healing way. I didn’t have a name for it yet, but I knew I was being called to do something different—something deeper.
When I finally discovered chiropractic, it felt like everything aligned. It wasn’t just a career—it was a confirmation of what I had always felt inside. I realized I wasn’t here to follow a script. I was here to help people reconnect with themselves, their bodies, and the natural intelligence that runs through all life.
So no—I’m not doing what I was told to do. I’m doing what I was *meant* to do. And even before I could explain it, I knew I was being led here for a reason.
