We’re looking forward to introducing you to Taylor Hamill . Check out our conversation below.
Hi Taylor , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately I’ve really been enjoying going to the gym and fishing again. I’ve neglected my hobbies the last year and a half or so and I’m glad to finally make my way back to things I enjoy outside of my day to day
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey yall, my name is Taylor Hamill. Owner and founder of freedom residential services. We remodel and repair homes and businesses, and run a junk removal service with our dump trailers. We’ve been going on nearly 8 years now, and what a ride it’s been. We are currently running remodels, and a lot of handyman work, and putting our dump trailer to good use.
We’ve been kicking around the idea of getting a few vending/snack machines and a few ATMs to have floating around for us throughout dfw. But that’s a bridge we will cross when it’s time. For now we are just focused on keeping our clients happy, performing above standard work, and generating more work through referrals
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I never listened when the world told me who to be. Even as a kid I marched to my own beat, my father and brother are the same way. My brother and I started this business together despite people telling us it was a mistake. Our father joined us a couple of years later. My brother is now an accomplished tattoo artist (shout out to Josh Hamill)
We’re all a stubborn bunch, and even at our own detriment we don’t let anything decide who we are, unless it’s us
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
This taught me that when you’re low, you never think you’ll be up again, and when your up, that it can never be better. Struggling at some point I think is necessary for people. It teaches you what you’re made of, and allows you to adapt to the uncomfortable and unknown and you come away from it all with lessons and wisdom you can apply in the future
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Very much so. What you see with me, is the real me. I don’t have a facade, and I don’t wear a mask. I don’t see the point. Life isn’t a popularity contest.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Working on the weekends. I’d stop that right away 🤣 kidding. We rarely do that anymore. I think I’d throw my cell phone in the trash and be more in the moment in all aspects of my life
