Roxanna Contreras Balderas shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Roxanna, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is a normal day like for you right now?
My normal day to day life is spending time with my son. Whether, we enjoy our day at home, playing, going to the library or enjoying our day at the park. My son and I go on our coffee dates every week. He always gets his chocolate milk. I love bonding with him cause I know these days won’t last forever. So, I cherish these little moments we have together.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Roxanna. I was born and raised in Oak Cliff. I am photographer here in Dallas. This is my story,
I started my business AVision about three years ago today.
Interestingly enough, it started as a little side hustle and now it’s only grown into my full time career/job.
I fell in love with photography.
My love has grown throughout the years.
Seeing the customers so happy, just brings me so much joy.
What’s unique about my little business? Well, I try to stay affordable and reasonable with my pricing so everyone has access to beautiful professional photos/sessions. As a parents, we have tough times but we still want to have beautiful memories with our families. Staying affordable really helps.
I love being a part of these moments.
Currently, what I’m working on is growing my business now. I finally opened up my little studio, AVision Studios. I am trying to market and begin renting it out to others. I hope to see others work in the space I’m in. Possibly collab with other great creators and artists.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents are the ones that taught me about work. If I want something and want to do something I have to work hard in order to obtain it. They really set the bar for me. They believed in me and never let me give up. Everything I’ve done is because of them. I am grateful and blessed to have them as role models.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could talk to my younger self, I’d tell her that it’s okay if things don’t go as planned. To not beat yourself up about it. That everything works out for the best. If one door closes, another door will open. It will be open up opportunities you never expected.
Another thing, it’s okay to be alone.
You will find yourself and find happiness in it. Love yourself and trust in you.
Let your heart and mind always stay pure no matter what happens. Good things happen at the right time.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Cultural value that protect at all cost will forever be Family, Community and Equality.
I come from a big family, I believe you must always protect your own.
I love the community that I come from. I will forever support and advocate for others.
Especially with everything going on in the world.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m with my family. It brings me so much happiness and peace.
Love spending time with my husband and son. But I love when my siblings all come together and see our parents even if it’s just for a few hours. It’s like time freezes and it’s just laugher all around.
It’s the best feeling.
