We’re looking forward to introducing you to Candace G. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Candace, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
One thing that is bringing me joy lately is just sitting outside on my patio and allowing the sun to shine on my face. I have started making it apart of my daily routine to go outside with a cup of tea or coffee and just enjoy the day. Vitamin D is essential for all of us, so I make sure to soak up enough for the day while enjoying the sounds of the outdoors and thanking God for allowing me to see another day.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Candace G. and I am the owner of Candace’s Kitchen. I recently have relocated to Dallas, TX from Phoenix, AZ. I offer private chef, catering, and meal prep services to clients for their special events/occasions and to assist them with being consistent with eating healthy. I am a baker as well, so if something sweet needs to be added to a client’s menu of choice, I can surely provide them with that too. I also accept out of state bookings from clients.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that shaped me with how I see myself, would have to be the relationship that I have with my mom. My mom and I are really close and she always instilled in me to be a good person, put God first, and believe in yourself and know that you are great and destined for greatness. All of what she has told me for years has helped me to become the woman that I am today.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely! Moving to a new state and having to start over and build my clientele is not for the weak. The bookings were not coming, the clients were not there like I was used to having and there have been MANY times that I wanted to throw in the towel. What continues to keep me going is just remembering where I started. When I first started my business I did not have any clients and I grew my clientele from social media with being consistent in positing content, offering specials, and having pop up orders. I just keep telling myself “I did it before and I will do it again” and that it is a process and everything is not going to just happen overnight. I just continue to tell myself to stay the course and it will all work out exactly how it is meant to be.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of myself is 100% the real me! I know a lot of people say that who a person is online is not who they are in real life, but what I post and what people see is ME! I feel it is very important to show the real you online especially with owning a business, so that potential clients can get a glimpse or an idea of what type of person that you are, so that they have a feeling of comfort when making a decision to work with you. People want to see the face behind the brand, not just what the brand is about.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I can answer wholeheartedly and say yes. I have never been the type of person who does things for praise and recognition, nor do I look for it. I give everything my best because my name is attached to it and I want my brand to always be attached to nothing but positivity. Most importantly I give everything my best because I want to use the gifts that God gave me to the fullest.
