We’re looking forward to introducing you to Oneil Brown. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Oneil, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, I’ve found a deep sense of joy and purpose in my volunteer work. When I’m not on the clock, you can often find me either out in the field with the East Texas CERT team, participating in search and rescue operations, or spending one-on-one time mentoring troubled teens with another fantastic organization. There’s something incredibly humbling and rewarding about being able to give back to my community in such direct ways. Whether it’s the adrenaline and focus of a search and rescue mission or the breakthrough moment with a teenager who just needs someone to believe in them, these experiences fill my soul in a way nothing else can. It’s in these moments, serving others, that I feel most alive and connected to what truly matters.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, my name is Oneil Brown (the CEO of Herbal Enrichments). I’ve been an herbalist for over seven years and became a Certified Master Herbalist with the American Naturopathic Medical Certification Board in 2022. My work is centered on promoting holistic wellness. I am dedicated to using natural approaches to help support the body’s ability to thrive.
This passion for helping others and preparedness led me to become a certified instructor for Wilderness First Aid, CPR, and First Aid with both the Emergency Care & Safety Institute (ECSI) and the American Red Cross. I am also an instructor for Stop the Bleed with The American College of Surgeons (ACS) and The Stop the Bleed Coalition.
For the last seven years, I have been a volunteer with my local Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) here in East Texas, focusing on search and rescue. I also have the opportunity to collaborate with the Northeast Texas Child Abduction Response Team (CART) on missing person cases which includes both children and adults.
Driven by a desire to empower my community, I founded the non-profit “To Prepare.” Our goal is to provide awareness and training on child safety and to offer essential emergency preparedness education and training classes.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling truly powerful takes me back to when I was just seven years old. My uncle (Asley Young), a significant figure in my life, challenged me to do something that, in my young mind, seemed absolutely impossible. I remember the doubt and the fear swirling within me, but his encouragement gave me the push I needed. The moment I accomplished that feat is etched in my memory. It was like a switch flipped inside me. A surge of confidence washed over me, and from that day forward, I’ve carried the belief that with enough determination, there is truly nothing I can’t do. That single experience laid the foundation for my self-belief and has been a source of strength ever since.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has been one of my most profound teachers, and its greatest lesson has been resilience. For me, success isn’t just about the win; it’s about the resolve that is forged in the fires of struggle. It’s in the moments of adversity, when things don’t go as planned, that I’ve learned to dig deep, adapt, and push forward. Without the tough times, I wouldn’t have developed the mental and emotional fortitude to navigate life’s inevitable challenges. Those experiences of failure and unexpected outcomes have taught me how to cope, how to learn from my mistakes, and ultimately, how to appreciate the sweetness of success on a much deeper level.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. What you see is what you get with me. I’ve always found it difficult and draining to try and be someone I’m not. The person you meet in a professional setting or out in the community is the very same person my family and close friends see at home. Authenticity is a core value for me, and I believe in being genuine and transparent in all my interactions. I find that it builds stronger, more honest connections with people, and frankly, it’s just a much simpler and more fulfilling way to live.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse myself in nature. There’s a profound sense of tranquility that I find when I’m out hiking on a quiet trail or camping under a star-filled sky. It’s in those moments, away from work and digital distractions, that I can truly disconnect and recharge. The simple sounds of the wilderness, the fresh air, and the vastness of the outdoors have a way of putting everything into perspective and bringing a sense of calm to my soul.
