Maryam Jawad shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Maryam, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? When was the last time you felt true joy?
The last time I felt true joy was honestly just yesterday—because every day I get to bring a smile to someone’s face through my work. Whether it’s helping someone feel more confident in their skin, easing their stress, or simply listening to them, that connection fills me with purpose. Being part of someone’s self-care and healing journey is more than a job—it’s my daily joy.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Maryam—owner of My Sunshine Beauty & MedSpa in McKinney, TX. I’ve been an esthetician for over 20 years, and I’ve built my brand on trust, results, and genuine care. I offer treatments like RF microneedling, Hydrafacial, chemical peels, acne care, and body sculpting. What makes my work special is the connection I build with every client. I don’t just treat skin—I help people feel confident and beautiful inside and out. My dream is to grow a bigger spa, hire a strong team, and help more people shine.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
In childhood, it was my father who saw me clearly before I could see myself. He always believed in my strength and potential, even when I didn’t. That support shaped my confidence early in life. Later on, my husband became that person—he has supported me unconditionally since the day we met. His belief in me, both emotionally and in business, continues to push me forward every day.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I stopped hiding my pain when I realized staying silent was only holding me back. I’ve been through a lot—betrayal, heartbreak, even being left alone by my own family. But I chose to turn that pain into purpose. I stopped being ashamed of my story and started using it to build my strength, my business, and my voice. Today, I stand proud—not because life was easy, but because I kept going anyway.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
One important truth I believe in—but not everyone agrees with—is this: Being fully yourself is more powerful than trying to fit in. I’ve learned that staying true to who I am, even when it makes others uncomfortable, is the key to real success and peace. I don’t pretend, I don’t follow crowds—I’m just myself. And that’s enough.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people tell the story of a woman who never gave up. No matter how hard life got, I kept going—with strength, faith, and love. I want to be remembered as someone who lifted others up, built something beautiful from pain, and inspired people to believe in themselves, even when the world didn’t. That’s the legacy I want to leave behind.
