Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Courtney Barnett of Fort Worth

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Courtney Barnett . Check out our conversation below.

Hi Courtney, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me starts bright and early around 6 a.m. with full-on mom mode. Once my son is up, we ease into the day with breakfast and a morning walk, it’s our little ritual to soak in some sunshine. While he’s down for his first nap, I shift gears and hustle through as much work as I can (with coffee in hand, of course) and get myself ready for the day. Midday is filled with snacks, playtime, and lunch, followed by another short window of productivity during his second nap. Balancing motherhood and building FastingHouse has definitely been a juggling act, but I’m learning to lean into the chaos and find the beauty in it. I’m doing my best to be present for both my baby and my business because this season is flying by, and I want to soak up every second.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Courtney, the heart and hands behind FastingHouse Naturals—a small-batch, eco-conscious brand rooted in holistic wellness, sustainability, and everyday Self Care. I started FastingHouse as a way to merge my love for natural living with my passion for creating meaningful, handmade self-care products that people can actually feel good about using. From sustainable goods to grounding mists and body scrubs, so much more every item is crafted with intention, using clean ingredients and earthy elements that support both the body and the planet.

What makes FastingHouse special is that it’s not just about products, it’s about connection. I love teaching DIY workshops, chatting with customers at local markets, and sharing this journey as a mom and maker trying to keep things simple, grounded, and authentic. Right now, I’m working on growing our refill offerings, expanding our scrub classes, and continuing to make self-care more accessible, affordable, and low-waste.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that truly shaped how I see the world was when I first met my son. Everything shifted in that instant. My priorities, my pace, and my purpose would never be the same. It grounded me in a way I didn’t expect, reminding me of the beauty in simplicity, the power of presence, and the deep responsibility we have to care for one another and the planet we’re passing on.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one thing to my younger self, it would be this: One day, all the hurt you’re carrying will feel like a distant memory, softened by the love and support of the people you’ve chosen to surround yourself with. You’ve built the most beautiful little family, and your hard work has paid off, you’re living a life filled with purpose, peace, and so much love.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
A belief and mission I’m committed to for the long haul is the heart of FastingHouse: creating clean, wholesome products that are free of harsh chemicals and accessible to all. I’m deeply passionate about building an online and farmers market refillery model where sustainable, high-quality refills can show up at your door as conveniently as anything else you order online. This isn’t just about self-care products. This is about protecting our health, our communities, and the future we’re shaping for our children.

For too long, big companies have normalized toxic ingredients and trained us to crave artificial scents and wasteful convenience. Shifting that mindset takes time. But I’m here for it! I’m committed to helping people reconnect with simpler, safer, and more sustainable choices, no matter how long it takes.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What false labels are you still carrying?
One false label I’ve carried is the idea that I have to “do it all” to be successful or worthy—especially as a mom, a business owner, and someone building something meaningful from the ground up. That pressure to always be productive, polished, and on top of everything often feeds into imposter syndrome, making me question if I’m doing enough or if I even belong in the spaces I’ve worked so hard to be in. But the truth is, rest is productive. Slowness has value. And showing up imperfectly with heart and intention is more than enough. Letting go of those false labels and the imposter syndrome that tags along is still a work in progress, but I’m learning to trade them for grace, presence, and trust in my own path.
