Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Edward Brown of Pantego

Edward Brown shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Edward, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
Some of us don’t walk a straight line. We wander—through chaos, through setbacks, through moments that knock the air right out of our lungs. I’m not following some grand roadmap. I’m navigating the wild terrain that life throws at me, one rough patch, one unexpected detour at a time.
Dealing with the side effects of cancer, and the domino effect it has on the rest of my health, isn’t something I can plan around. It shapes everything—my energy, my body, my days. But it hasn’t dulled the love I pour into what I make. If anything, it sharpens it.
Every linen spray, every bar of soap, every bottle I craft comes from a place of persistence, of quiet triumph. I don’t have control over much, but I do have this: the ability to create something beautiful, something intentional, something made with hands that have trembled and kept going anyway.
I’m still here. Still making. Still finding ways to turn this wandering into impact. That’s the story behind every item I share with you. It isn’t just a product—it’s a piece of the journey.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Every candle and bar of soap I create starts from scratch with pure soy wax, plant-based oils, ethically sourced butters, and essential oils, so you get a truly natural, high-quality treat for your skin and senses. I hand-mix each batch to ensure consistency, then add an artistic twist like swirls of botanical petals, hand-poured layers topped with dried lavender or citrus zest, and custom color gradients that make every piece one-of-a-kind. By sourcing locally and refining each recipe myself, I keep prices friendly without sacrificing craftsmanship, and because creativity never sleeps, you’ll always find fresh seasonal scents, limited-edition designs, and playful new releases popping up regularly

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
There was a time I didn’t know if I’d wake up again.
Being in a coma and facing a cancer diagnosis wasn’t just a chapter in my life—it rewrote the whole story. It stripped away everything I thought mattered: the numbers in the bank account, the checklist of goals, the rush to “have more.” Suddenly, none of it seemed important.
What did matter?
The people who sat by my side.
The memories that floated to the surface when time stood still.
The warmth of laughter. A hand held. A moment shared.
That was the moment I realized life can change—or end—in an instant. And that realization has never left me. Since then, I’ve been living with a whole new lens:
– 🌱 Every breath is a gift
– 💬 Every conversation holds the chance to uplift
– 🤝 Every friendship is worth nurturing
It’s not about collecting things—it’s about collecting meaning. Small joys. Deep connections. Quiet mornings. Unexpected kindness. That’s where the real richness of life lives.
Everything happens for a reason, even if we can’t always see it at the time. That moment—my moment—taught me to never overlook the little things, because they are, in truth, the big things.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
My cancer journey and its lifelong side effects are woven into every aspect of my craft, fueling a purpose-driven approach that transforms raw pain into empowerment. Each twinge of neuropathy or wave of fatigue reminds me of the resilience I discovered during treatment, inspiring me to infuse every handmade linen spray, air freshener, and soap with intention, hope, and gratitude. By sharing candid stories of chemo-induced exhaustion and lingering aches, I not only honor my own truth but also grant permission to others to voice their struggles, fostering a community bound by authenticity and solidarity. This vulnerability shifts narratives from pity to power, turning scars into signposts that guide my creative choices—from ethically sourced ingredients to mindful packaging—ensuring that each product carries a message of perseverance. In telling my story, I invite everyone to harness their hardships as catalysts for meaningful work, never allowing adversity to dim the pursuit of what brings them joy and fulfillment

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
The version of me you see in public? That’s the version I want to be.
The one who speaks life into others. The one who shows up, creates beauty, and pours love into every bottle, bar, and brushstroke. That’s the me I fight for.
But behind closed doors, it’s not always easy.
At home, I sometimes wrestle with my body—health battles that drain me physically and emotionally. There are moments where I feel hollow, like the shell of who I aim to be. Times when worth feels like a distant memory, and silence gets too loud.
Still—I don’t give up.
I breathe deep, speak truth over the lies, and remind myself why I started: to create things that bring comfort, to tell stories that spark connection, and to lift others even when I’m still learning how to lift myself.
This isn’t just about fragrances or soaps. It’s about hope—bottled, wrapped, and offered freely.
For anyone else fighting silent battles: You’re not alone.
We rise again. And again. And again.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope the story they tell isn’t just about the candles I poured or the soaps I crafted — but about why I made them. I hope they say I was selfless. That I cared deeply. That I always put others first, even when no one was watching.
That I never gave up.
I hope they remember the meaning behind the things I made — how each scent, each label, each detail was my way of saying “You matter.” That I poured love and hope into every spray and bar, not just to freshen a room or cleanse a hand, but to lift someone’s spirit — even just a little.
If they say anything at all, I hope it’s that I helped people smile. That I made them feel seen, appreciated, and loved.
Because that — that was always the whole point.
