We’re looking forward to introducing you to Misty Thomas. Check out our conversation below.
Misty , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Great question! People see the beautiful weddings, the happy couples, and the seamless events—but what they don’t see is what I’m most proud of building.
Behind the scenes, my kids are right there with me—watching, helping, learning. They see me handle pressure, solve problems, treat others with respect, and stay calm when things don’t go as planned.
And yes, there are moments I get frustrated. Things get stressful. But they also see me take a breath, overcome it, and handle things the right way. That part matters just as much.
Little by little, I’m watching them grow in confidence. They’re learning the value of hard work, integrity, kindness, and showing up fully—just by being part of the process.
I may be building dream weddings for others, but the real work I’m proud of is building strong, grounded kids with hearts to serve and courage to lead. Always putting God first and thanking him for this beautiful life and blessings/opportunities he gives us.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Sure, I’m Misty Thomas— an award winning luxury wedding planner, travel advisor, wife of an amazing Navy veteran, and proud mom of four. With over a decade of experience in event planning, I help couples create unforgettable weddings and seamless celebrations, whether it’s a local event or a destination wedding in a tropical paradise.
My brand is rooted in excellence, faith, and family. What makes it special is the heart behind it—I treat every event like it’s my own and every couple like family. I believe in building genuine relationships, paying attention to every little detail, and creating moments that truly reflect who my clients are.
What’s especially meaningful to me is involving our kids in what I do. They watch and help behind the scenes, and in the process, my husband and I are teaching them confidence, strong values, and what it means to serve with grace—even when things get tough.
Right now, I’m focused on expanding my destination wedding and honeymoon services to give couples a full, personalized experience from “Yes” to “I do”—and even the trip after! Whether planning locally or globally, I’m here to bring calm, clarity, and joy to one of life’s biggest moments.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
First and foremost—God. The Bible makes it clear that faith without works is dead, and I believe in showing up and putting in the effort. That foundation guides everything I do.
I also learned so much from my parents. My late father introduced me to the world of entrepreneurship at an early age. He taught me the value of building something from the ground up, something you’re passionate about and proud of. That planted the seed for the work I do today.
And then there’s my mom—one of my greatest inspirations. Her strength, resilience, and faith are unmatched. No matter how hard life got, she never gave up. She kept pushing forward and trusted God every step of the way.
Their example taught me that true work isn’t just about what you build—it’s about how you carry yourself through it. With purpose, passion, and perseverance.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Worrying about what people will think, say, or do.
For a long time, I let the opinions and judgments of others dim my light. I second-guessed myself, played small, and held back from opportunities because I was afraid of being misunderstood, criticized, or not accepted.
But over time—and with God’s help—I’ve learned that my calling isn’t meant to be approved by everyone. I’ve found peace in knowing that as long as I’m walking in purpose, doing my best, and staying true to who I am, I don’t need permission to shine.
It’s still something I work through, but I’ve come a long way. Now I choose to move forward in faith, not fear.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies my industry tells itself is that “perfection is the goal.”
In weddings and events, there’s so much pressure to make everything look flawless on the outside. But real beauty—and real success—comes from how things feel, not just how they look. The truth is, behind every Pinterest-perfect moment is a team solving problems, adjusting timelines, and sometimes holding back tears while still smiling. And that’s okay. It’s not about perfection—it’s about purpose, presence, and people.
Another lie is that “you have to do what everyone else is doing.” I believe every couple deserves a wedding that’s a reflection of them, not just what’s trending. Cookie-cutter events might look pretty, but they often lack soul. That’s why I work so hard to bring authenticity into every detail.
Lastly, the industry often downplays how much work goes into planning. It’s not just picking colors and flowers—it’s contracts, logistics, communication, and emotional support. Planners don’t just plan events—we protect peace, solve problems, and carry weight people never see. We’re the real MVP’s!
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I genuinely hope people say that I lived a life rooted in faith, purpose, and love. That I made others feel seen, celebrated, and supported—whether through the events I planned, the kindness I showed, or the way I balanced being a wife, mother, and entrepreneur with grace. I want the story to be that I poured my heart into everything I did, gave God the glory, and left a legacy of joy, strength, and service. That I didn’t just chase success—I helped others believe in their own.
