Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Brandyn Alexander of Dallas

Brandyn Alexander shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Brandyn , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Who are you learning from right now?
God, The mistakes of my past, and my Best Friend, DD! Ultimately, Keeping prayer first has and communicating with God has given me new tools to look back at the past me and grow from things I used to do.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, My name is Brandyn Alexander. I’m an Aspiring Model here in the DFW area who specializes in Editorial, Print, Runway & Creative Direction. I’m currently preparing for Runway season and look forward to Connecting with you all soon!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The people pleaser in me has overstayed its welcome! I’ve conformed for many years to fit societies standards of who I should be, forcing myself to suppress the parts of me that make me, Me! Now that the version of me people once knew is released, it’s time I live and learn for me. It took a long time to reach this stage in my life, I pray anybody out there who feels stuck in that phase keeps fighting for the person they truly are within! Because that’s who the world needs to see, not the mask we put on.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There’s been plenty of times where I’ve been forced into a space where I couldn’t create for various reasons. In those times is when passion boils the most, when my back is against the wall and it’s time for a new game plan, all of these moments feel like I almost gave up. Instead they fueled me to go harder for moments like this, they make me more grateful and intentional when I am able to create. So in my midst of giving up, there’s always a reminder or a push that reminds me to keep fighting.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely not. I’m a man of many Layers, who’s still learning and growing daily! The face I put on in public is just a polished version of the best parts of me.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
Anything I’ve done for my modeling career was purely passion-driven, I pray, I practice, I never say no to a lesson. I don’t do this to look good in a photo, I do this to empower myself and say I followed my dreams. There’s a long line of Black Boys before and after me who’ve been made to feel Small, like they couldn’t be somebody just because what small minded people think of them. My legacy will one day prove to them that no matter what limits or labels someone gives you, you can exceed them all. My legacy will be more than a photo album, it’ll be a blueprint.
