We recently had the chance to connect with Ja’lia Marie and have shared our conversation below.
Ja’lia, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me is to wake up, pray, and read/meditate on a scripture before I touch my phone. Everything else is decided by fate. Grounding myself and establishing my faith and foundation is most important.!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Ja’lia Marie and I am ALL things media. I consider myself to be a one stop shop. I am a Photographer, Videographer, Social Media Manager, Creative Director, and Certified PR/ Image Consultant. Basically anything an artist, including myself, would need to establish themselves as a public figure, I can assist with.!
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
What breaks the bonds between people is pride. A lot of people want to be seen as strong and “unbothered” when in reality all we really want is love, community, and understanding. I believe what restores the bond is honesty, vulnerability, and an open dialect about the way you feel. Feelings are our superpower, hence (gut feelings) and (intuition), but we suppress them to not appear weak. Unfortunately, it only hinders us from growing and moving forward in a healthy manner.!
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me that God is real. There are situations that I would have never been able to overcome without His grace and mercy. Suffering has also taught me about myself and my character. How people behave when they’re under a lot of pressure will tell you more about them than when they are at their pinnacle.! Diamonds are made under pressure, and it’s safe to say that I am a Diamond in the rough.! I am resilient.!
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is an extension of the real me. Although I don’t share or show everything that I am or go through, the things I do share are true to who I am and what I stand for. I am a woman of integrity, morals, values, and principles in the public eye and behind the scenes. There is no publicity or public opinion that will change that.! What I practice in my day to day life, I also practice in my business.!
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
If I laid down my name, role, and possessions, my heart would remain. There have been so many instances where I lost it all. I am actually in one of those seasons at the moment. Rebuilding, rebranding, and regaining my sense of self has taught me that without any of those things, I am still my kind, loving, respectful, generous, honest, empathetic, ambitious, forgiving, God fearing self.
