We’re looking forward to introducing you to Eric Meyer. Check out our conversation below.
Eric, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
It seems that people on the outside devalue the amount of work that goes in to making music, photography, and video. They hear or see (…or both…) and it is assumed that people are simply talented and that these works are turned out in a matter of minutes when in reality it is a matter of days. Unfortunately, the reductive power of TV and the finished products that people get to enjoy makes it appear that this is all simple work and to most people they don’t consider it work that goes in to making the product.
On the inside, people want to do this work because it seems fun, however they don’t realize the amount of effort that they will have to put in to realize success if it comes at all. It seems that people are like the idea of titles that they would like to have associated with their name while not realizing that these titles they want take years to earn.
The one thing that I believe to be true is that the only thing I deserve is the opportunity to earn everything. Just because you have worked to build something doesn’t guarantee that you will be successful and that is true in my case as much as anyone else’s case.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
The Noiz Faktory is a multimedia production facility. We are capable of doing both audio and video productions. We also offer education for audio and video, we do live video studio performances of bands, we create content for companies as well as provide clinics in audio and video where the public can attend these events and engage with the instructor.
We think that what makes these things interesting is that we try to bring people together so they can connect with other like minded people and ask questions that may otherwise get overlooked on a Zoom call or in a pre-recorded course that they may purchase from somewhere.
We built The Noiz Faktory to bring people together and to help people achieve their goals. Our passion is creating opportunities for people to connect and bringing peoples artistic vision to life.
We just completed a project for the band Days Pass and we are grateful for the band to trust us with their project. Please go visit Days Pass on YouTube should you want to hear what was created.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Although this may come off as a generic answer…my wife Angelica seems to have seen things in me that I didn’t. She saw what I was always thinking of and without fail encourages me to do things…even when it’s completely unrelated to things. She is always encouraging me to learn new things and never waivers when I decide to learn something new.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
During the building of The Noiz Faktory, I had so many nights where I worried that I had made the biggest mistake in my life that I would never come back from. I would worry about finances, construction, how am I going to get the project built…the list goes on and on. Once it was built, the new question became how will I outfit the facility? Once the facility was outfitted, the next question is, how am I going to get business? The list of questions and fear seemed to be never ending. The lesson learned is that the only way out it through. Somehow I have come out on the other side which is something I never thought would happen. In short, a little work every day is how you bring a dream to life.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Personally, I don’t think smart people can see long term. They think new is better. They also seem to think just because they can that they should. My opinion is that they have huge blind spots to their own humanity and are a bit narcissistic. They most definitely can not see the unintended consequences of their creations. There seems to be an emphasis on racing to the end and creating the next big thing. To me, since no one is getting out of life alive, I think relationships have way more value and make the world a better place.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
This may not make sense to anyone however, I find myself at peace when I am in new territory and around people that I perceive to be more skilled than me in an area that I am weak in. I guess you could say that I am quite comfortable being un-OK around people. The reason this is peaceful to me is that I get to learn new things and I get to work on personal things. Oddly enough, working at things makes me happy.
