Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Taylor.
Tamara, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey into the mental health field began over 18 years ago. Probably even before that, into childhood. I know family secrets because everyone seemed to talk to me. When I moved to Texas from Louisiana in 2006, I started in community mental health at MHMR of Tarrant County as a Qualified Mental Health Professional, (LPC-intern) where I did in home case management and mental health counseling. After completely obtaining my LPC license I entered the world of managed care-mental health insurance. I spent 13 years in the corporate world in various job functions. After feeling that I was not fulfilling my passion and purpose in life I decided to leave the corporate machine. I stepped out on faith and began networking to find ways to build my private practice in June 2022. Currently, I continue to network and collaborate with other practitioners to build the practice I have now. I also receive word of mouth referrals from current clients. In between all of this I have been writing a few articles that have been published in the Fort Worth Weekly. I also have been acting as a clinical visiting professor at various college and universities to precept mental health nurse practitioners. Some of universities include University of Texas at Arlington and Texas State University. This has been an enjoyable part of my practice. Along the way and throughout the years has have gain more certifications in health and wellness that I feel set me apart from other practitioners in my field.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it has not been a smooth road but at the same time it appears it is a road that I am destine to be on. When I started in private practice, there was a lot to learn. I had some what the upper hand in that I worked in the mental health/managed care insurance field so I understood that to an extent. But I did not know how contracting worked when contracting with other private practices as far as payment split. I quickly learned that I don’t want to split anything. Also finding ways to draw in new clients had not always been easy either. But as I found more creative ways and connected with more networking platforms it has become easier. I am not a social media person, I don’t have any social media so people are often curious on how I have so many clients. I like just old fashion networking. I do have a Google Business account, though.

I am Licensed Professional Counselor with a mental health private practice that provides psychotherapy services/counseling and wellness coaching. I have certification in health coaching, autism spectrum disorder clinical specialist, women’s health specialist and certified integrative mental health professional. I am known for my open-minded approach that welcomes all to my practice. I am very LGBTQA+ friendly. What I believe sets me apart from others in my field is customer service skills and being reliable. I believe in being a professional and trust my clients in my care with professionalism. I am humbly open-minded and honest. Brand-I don’t feel like I have a brand. I am a one woman band. My practice is just me, myself and I. I am totally virtual/telehealth so my practice reaches the whole state. But I am not the kind of person that likes to be in the spot light. I like to be behind the scenes and let people come to me.
