Daily Inspiration: Meet Abby Pfaff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Pfaff.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve basically had a camera in my hands for as long as I can remember. I got my very first point and shoot digital camera when I was five, and from then on I was the kid who was always taking pictures of my family, school events, and everything in between.

In high school, I took a photography class and I knew right away this was what I wanted to do forever. I actually started my business at sixteen while I was still in school, and it’s grown into something bigger than I could have ever imagined.

The thing that keeps me going is seeing people light up when they see themselves in their photos. Hearing “these are my favorite pictures of myself” is the best compliment I could ever get. My goal with every session is to make it fun, relaxed, and confidence-boosting, because you should walk away loving not just the pictures, but the experience too.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve been really lucky to have a family that’s always had my back and cheered me on. But like most small business owners, I’ve definitely had my fair share of challenges, and those bumps along the way have shaped me into the photographer (and person) I am today.

I graduated from UNT in 2019, and just a few months later the world shut down. Not exactly the easiest time to be fresh out of college and trying to grow a photography business, but that season pushed me to get creative. I ended up photographing just about everything: newborns at a hospital, yearbook photos in schools, sports, weddings, events, families, seniors, etc. while also working several part time jobs on the side to make ends meet while I worked to grow my business.

Looking back, those experiences were so valuable. I got to work with all kinds of people in all sorts of situations, and it stretched me in the best ways. But it also helped me figure out where my heart really is: senior and graduation portraits. There’s just something about the energy and excitement about that season of life that I absolutely love capturing.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in true-to-life, bold, colorful, completely personalized graduation photography for both high school seniors and college grads in Fort Worth, Dallas, and beyond. My style is confident, authentic, and focused on showcasing each client’s unique personality. I believe your senior portraits should feel like you — not overly staged or cookie-cutter.

What I’m most proud of is when someone tells me that a photo I took is their all-time favorite picture of themselves, or they say I have helped them find their confidence. That’s the highest compliment I could ever receive, because it means I’ve captured not just how they look, but how they feel. I make sure that every single person that steps in front of my camera feels comfortable and authentic. I love meeting new people, learning their stories, and creating images that celebrate such an important milestone in their lives. The fact that I still get an adrenaline rush after every shoot tells me I’m exactly where I’m meant to be.

From the moment you inquire about your senior session, I guide you through every step of the process. We’ll customize your shoot together, from styling, location, posing, hair and makeup recommendations, and even designing prints and albums after your session. My goal is to take the stress out of the experience so that you can relax, have fun, and feel completely confident in front of the camera.

What sets me apart from other photographers is the experience I provide. I don’t just deliver a gallery of pretty photos! I create a space where my clients feel seen, celebrated, and empowered. A lot of seniors come to me worried they’ll look awkward or don’t know how to pose, but by the end of their session, they’re laughing, relaxed, and shocked at how effortless it felt. Not only do they walk away with portraits they love, but they also walk away with a memory of how fun and confidence-boosting the session was.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Senior and graduation portraits are constantly evolving as each new generation comes through, so I definitely see big shifts in the next 5–10 years. Seniors today don’t just want traditional, stiff portraits. They crave an experience that makes them feel like the main character. They want to feel pampered, celebrated, and seen, while still keeping the session effortless and authentic.

When I was a high school senior about ten years ago, most portraits looked very similar…. posed in a field or standing by your car, probably rocking some teal or coral top. Today, we’re seeing so much more creativity and individuality in senior photography. I’ve photographed a senior drummer with a snare drum on fire, a Princess Tiana–inspired prom dress session, theater students inside a vintage theater, and seniors showing off their style in downtown Fort Worth with city vibes. That uniqueness is what excites me most about the future of senior portrait photography.

In the next decade, I think we’ll see an even stronger push toward personalization and storytelling in graduation photography. Seniors want images that reflect their passions, personalities, and style— not just what looks good on Instagram. My approach has always been to tailor each session so that no two galleries look the same. I spend time getting to know my clients so their session not only documents this milestone but also amplifies who they are in this moment.

The industry is shifting toward individuality, and I’m thrilled about it. It means more creativity, more meaningful experiences, and more seniors walking away with portraits they truly love.
